What is Arts Integration?
Arts Integration is an APPROACH to TEACHING in which students construct and demonstrate UNDERSTANDING through an ART FORM.
Students engage in a CREATIVE PROCESS which CONNECTS an art form and another subject area and meets EVOLVING OBJECTIVES in both.
History of AI at Bates Middle School:
Wiley H. Bates Middle School became an arts integrated school in 2007. This decision was made in order to change the overall climate of the middle school. While not all lessons are taught using arts integration, we avidly attempt to utilize drama, dance, music, or visual art in all core content areas (and vise versa) to support the curriculum standards. These strategies have been proven to improve student engagement, comprehension, critical thinking tactics and a multitude of other 21st century skills.
