  • Opening of School: Relationships, Social-Emotional Climate & PD Days

    Please take a look at the resources for School Opening for background reading on this topic.  Feel free to discuss the following questions with teachers in your schools and bring back their thoughts and ideas for discussion at our October 1, 2018 Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory meeting.

    Questions to be considered:

    • How did this year’s opening of school compare to prior years?
    • What are you seeing happening within your school with staff and students based on our focus on our people and building healthy relationships?
    • How is our first Strategic Plan Value – All means ALL - coming alive in your schools?
    • How do teachers feel about the extra PD days offered at the beginning of this school year?
    • Are there any #AACPSBackToAwesome “best practices” from teachers in your schools that you feel should be shared with other teachers around the county? 

  • Equity

    Feel free to discuss the following questions with teachers in your schools and bring back their thoughts and ideas for discussion at our November 5th Superintendent’s Teacher Advisory meeting.

    Questions to be considered:

    • How did you and your colleagues feel about the Equity professional development you engaged in on the PD ½ day on October 17 th? 
      1. Were there any important “aha” moments that came out of the professional development experience?
      2. Is there any feedback regarding the Equity PD that you would like to share on behalf of yourself or your colleagues?
    • How do you and your colleagues weave equity decisions and equitable practices into the planning and implementation of your classroom lessons or co-curricular offerings?

  • COMMUNITY-BUILDING CIRCLES & RESTORATIVE QUESTIONING (RESTORATIVE PRACTICES)

    Please take some time to think about and/or discuss the following questions with your teacher-colleagues at school:

    How are teachers in your school helping to build relationships and healthy communication between students and between adults and students?

    If Community-Building Circles are used in your school…

    • When and how are teachers using Community-Building Circles in their classrooms or throughout the school?
    • How do teachers feel about the use of Community-Building Circles with students?
    • Do you have any best-practice stories to share about the use of Community-Building Circles in your school?

    If Restorative Questions are used in your school…

    • When and how are teachers using Restorative Questions in their classrooms?
    • How do teachers feel about the use of Restorative Questions with students?
    • Do you have any best-practice stories to share about the use of Restorative Questions in your school?

    Are any of your teachers having any specific struggles using either Community-Building Circles or Restorative Questioning?

  • Review of our AACPS Board of Education’s FY2020 Recommended Budget

    Please think about the 2018-19 school year and bring any questions or concerns you and/or your teacher colleagues may have that have yet to be answered or addressed.  No question is too small or insignificant.  If you are wondering about something, it is quite probable that others have similar questions.
