Marley Glen School

Strategic Plan Indicators

  • After each school leadership team reflected on its school culture, community, and the key contributing factors to student growth, they used this information to select the Strategic Plan Indicators that would have the greatest positive impact for their students.  Each school was directed to select two to six indicators on which to focus during the 2018-19 school year.  Certainly, we all know that if we focus narrowly and deeply, we are more likely to realize positive results.  The indicators that this school’s leadership team selected are noted below.

  • 2019-2020 Strategic Plan Indicator(s) Chosen by the School - 2, 5, 6 (expand to view details)

Indicator 2. INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS WHO REPORT THAT AACPS STAFF CARE FOR AND SUPPORT THEM

Indicator 5. INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS WHO READ ON OR ABOVE GRADE LEVEL BY THE END OF SECOND GRADE

Indicator 6. INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS IN GRADES 3-8 WHO MEET OR EXCEED EXPECTATIONS ON STANDARDIZED READING, LANGUAGE ARTS, AND MATHEMATICS ASSESSMENTS

Reading is a new focus at Marley Glen School! All classes now teach reading daily. Books were purchased in conjunction with the reading office to ensure that all classrooms had appropriate materials. Students K-21 have access to the Unique Learning Systems. Professional development opportunities were provided to all teachers to increase their capacity in the area of reading.

  • 2018-2019 Strategic Plan Indicator(s) Chosen by the School - 3, 16 (expand to view details)

Indicator 3.  INCREASE THE USE OF RESTORATIVE PRACTICES IN SCHOOLS AND OFFICES

Indicator 16. INCREASE NUMBER OF COMMUNITY-BASED OPPORTUNITIES FOR SERVICE LEARNING FOR ALL STUDENTS AND FAMILIES.

Strategic Journey

  • Throughout the next 3 years, schools will focus on their chosen Strategic Plan Indicators as the drivers to increase student engagement and achievement within their schools.  They will choose strategies to help them grow or increase within each indicator and will monitor and evaluate the student and school changes that take place along the journey.  Below you will see what this school imagines their students and school to look like in 2021 after having focused and worked on their chosen indicators for three years.

Our Vision of Success: 2021

  • We are committed to continuing to make Marley Glen School a vision of success as a school. To us, success means the following:

    • All students are actively participating in the learning process.
    • All students achieve maximum independence through applying current ideas and exploring new ideas.
    • Our staff, families, and the community celebrate together all students’ efforts and successes.
    • Staff, students, and families openly communicate with respect, dignity, and kindness.
    • All staff benefit from ongoing development that helps meet the unique needs of all students.

Marley Glen is a school where all students progress towards mastery of their IEP objectives. We continue to develop community and integrated experiences and resources. The transition facilitator will continue to work with the family to locate resources beyond a student’s school years. Students will graduate from Marley Glen exiting to adult programs and a variety of community job opportunities (Indicator 16).

All of our students and families will feel supported and valued by the Marley Glen School community (Indicator 1). Our collaborative team approach will work with families to support the specific needs of students. Sometimes, a student is frequently absent because of complex medical needs. In those cases, our staff works closely with the family and the Home and Hospital teaching staff to minimize the students’ skill losses (Indicator 10)

Our culture is fueled by empathy and equity. As part of integrating restorative practices into the school day, students will initiate greetings with other students and staff as people enter rooms or the building. All students will participate in community circle every day. Students will build their vocabulary to independently express themselves through their preferred means of communication. As students become more proficient, they will generalize these skills when in the community (Indicator 3).
