Strategic Plan Indicators

  • After each school leadership team reflected on its school culture, community, and the key contributing factors to student growth, they used this information to select the Strategic Plan Indicators that would have the greatest positive impact for their students.  Each school was directed to select two to six indicators on which to focus during the 2018-19 school year.  Certainly, we all know that if we focus narrowly and deeply, we are more likely to realize positive results.  The indicators that this school’s leadership team selected are noted below.

  • Strategic Plan Indicator(s) Chosen by the School - 3, 7, 9, 10, 16 (expand to view details)

Indicator 3.  INCREASE THE USE OF RESTORATIVE PRACTICES IN SCHOOLS AND OFFICES

Indicator 7. INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS IN GRADES 9-12 WHO MEET OR EXCEED EXPECTATIONS ON STANDARDIZED ENGLISH AND MATHEMATICS ASSESSMENTS

Indicator 9. INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF 9TH GRADERS WHO MATRICULATE TO 10TH GRADE STATUS AFTER ONE YEAR

Indicator 10. INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS ATTENDING SCHOOL ON A DAILY BASIS

Indicator 16. INCREASE NUMBER OF COMMUNITY-BASED OPPORTUNITIES FOR SERVICE LEARNING FOR ALL STUDENTS AND FAMILIES

Strategic Journey

  • Throughout the next 3 years, schools will focus on their chosen Strategic Plan Indicators as the drivers to increase student engagement and achievement within their schools.  They will choose strategies to help them grow or increase within each indicator and will monitor and evaluate the student and school changes that take place along the journey.  Below you will see what this school imagines their students and school to look like in 2021 after having focused and worked on their chosen indicators for three years.

Our Vision of Success: 2021

  • Restorative practices will be an ingrained part of North County culture by the spring of 2020. In the spring of 2018, all faculty and staff were trained in the use of “Community Circles.” During the 2018-2019 school year, all students were placed into a grade-level advisory with a teacher trained in the use of circles. The schedule was adjusted to include at least two advisory periods per week where advisory students used circles to discuss a wide range of topics. Teachers built rapport with students as questions were created, asked, and answered. Trust will continue to be built, and students will see their advisory teacher as an adult advocate they have in the building. Similarly, all adult meetings have included circles, as well, and teachers are also building community by participating in circles. By 2020, the use of circles will be a part of the culture and will help tear down walls between students and teachers as conversations between them are seen as a natural part of the school day.

    ------------------------------------

After two years of successful implementation, students will be able say that the teachers and staff at North County High School have given them the opportunity to express themselves. They will see that we followed through and set up an advisory system where each student had an adult that listened to and cared about them. They will say they got an opportunity to hear from and learn about students they may not have come into contact with before and they are better off for it.

    -------------------------------------
After two years, adults will be able to say that Community Circles gave them the opportunity to learn about and learn from their students and fellow staff members. Circles allow staff members to see their students and colleagues in a different light as a wide variety of topics and questions are asked and discussed. They will appreciate that we value the time spent in our circles and included them whenever possible. They will see how the increased feeling of community has led to success in and out of the classroom and will value what the circles have to offer.

Students’ scores on state assessments will improve for ALL students. By Spring of 2020, the use of the AVID Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading (WICOR) framework will be seen in use by ALL of the teachers of North County. Teachers will collaboratively plan with the needs of all students in mind and work to incorporate all components of the framework into each lesson. With a rigorous and engaging curriculum that is culturally responsive we will see more of our students meet with the success they deserve. We will have an environment where we have created a culture of independent thinkers who have the skills and knowledge necessary for success in whatever future they choose to pursue.

    --------------------------------------

Students will be able to say that they were engaged and challenged in all of their classrooms. Each of their lessons made them read, write, and think while helping them organize their thoughts. They will say that their teachers motivated them and sparked creativity and made them question. They will have experienced success on state and national exams and had options, whether in work or in higher education, when they graduated from NCHS.

    ---------------------------------------

Adults in two years, will say that North County was a place that allowed them the ability to challenge their students. That the collaborative environment and structure gave them the support they needed to reach all of their students. High expectations were the norm for teachers and students. Professional development was geared towards improving instruction, personal reflection, and reaching all students. In two years, more students will have had the opportunity to attain an excellent education because of teachers who honed their craft to better meet the needs of North County students.
