Strategic Plan Indicators

  • After each school leadership team reflected on its school culture, community, and the key contributing factors to student growth, they used this information to select the Strategic Plan Indicators that would have the greatest positive impact for their students.  Each school was directed to select two to six indicators on which to focus during the 2018-19 school year.  Certainly, we all know that if we focus narrowly and deeply, we are more likely to realize positive results.  The indicators that this school’s leadership team selected are noted below.

  • 2019-2020 Strategic Plan Indicator(s) Chosen by the School - 2, 6 (expand to view details)

    View Full List/Descriptions of Indicators

Indicator 2. INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS WHO REPORT THAT AACPS STAFF CARE FOR AND SUPPORT THEM

Indicator 6. INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS IN GRADES 3-8 WHO MEET OR EXCEED EXPECTATIONS ON STANDARDIZED READING, LANGUAGE ARTS, AND MATHEMATICS ASSESSMENTS

We are still focusing on the two we began last year. They are both so important, and though we showed high growth in #6, we still consider this a challenge.

Strategic Journey

  • Throughout the next 3 years, schools will focus on their chosen Strategic Plan Indicators as the drivers to increase student engagement and achievement within their schools.  They will choose strategies to help them grow or increase within each indicator and will monitor and evaluate the student and school changes that take place along the journey.  Below you will see what this school imagines their students and school to look like in 2021 after having focused and worked on their chosen indicators for three years.

Our Vision of Success: 2021

  • Crofton Middle School Eagles will continue to soar to new heights…

Supporting student academic growth will always be on the forefront of our work objectives.  Collaborative planning meetings are scheduled in all core courses 2 times per week. The effectiveness of collaborative planning will be monitored through the support and coaching of Resource Teachers, Administration and Department Chairs. Portions of the Teaching and Learning framework – specifically student engagement and high-level questions – will be targeted through faculty and departmental professional development. Quarterly Assessment and PARCC data will be analyzed to determine specific areas of need and instructional focus for specific groups of students. Target lessons for these students will be created.  (Indicator 6)

Also supporting student success will be the increased use of engagement strategies as defined by Teach Like a Champion by Doug LemovMultiple strategies will be emphasized through professional development.  The process will bring more students into active learning and will reduce the chances of students opting out.   (Indicators 2 and 6)

THe AVID Committee participation has been increased, and school-wide emphasis of the AVID program will be another factor in student achievement. Weekly AVID strategies are shared with teachers and implemented, supporting the AVID site plan – and student growth.  (Indicator 6)

The results will show that overall PARCC and Quarterly Assessments scores will increase. We expect that growth in our PARCC scores will be at least consistent with, if not better than, the district averages for growth. Crofton Middle School will be in at least the top five performing Middle Schools in Anne Arundel County. (Indicator 6)

With the inclusion of Community Building Circles and Restorative Practices, all stakeholders’ (staff, students and families) capacity for relationship building will be stronger.  Students will see stronger, more healthy relationships between themselves and other students. A mentoring program will be in place, as part of the PBIS program, to pair students and adults for increased student support. In addition, a schoolwide Unity/Kindness Campaign will be developed.  Students will report that teachers, counselors and administrators care about them. The school will feel safe and nurturing.  (Indicators 1, 2, and 3)

A formalized Student Support Team (SST), designed to discuss struggling students, has been established and will be functioning with fidelity.  The SST will address both academic and behavioral issues for our most troubled students.  (Indicators 1, 2, and 6)

Working as a community, Crofton Middle School will provide a safe, welcoming, and respectful learning environment of life-long learners.  We will inspire each other to be kind, caring, engaged, and productive members of the community. We will foster academic curiosity, global thinking, and positive social growth. The instruments to inform our school community of our beliefs will be the Mission, Vision, and Values Statements for Crofton Middle School. This will document and define the beliefs of all stakeholders (faculty, staff, students, families, and civic organizations).  All stakeholders will share the common commitment to develop happy, well-adjusted, well-educated students.
