Strategic Plan Indicators

  • After each school leadership team reflected on its school culture, community, and the key contributing factors to student growth, they used this information to select the Strategic Plan Indicators that would have the greatest positive impact for their students.  Each school was directed to select two to six indicators on which to focus during the 2018-19 school year.  Certainly, we all know that if we focus narrowly and deeply, we are more likely to realize positive results.  The indicators that this school’s leadership team selected are noted below.

  • 2019-2020 Strategic Plan Indicator(s) Chosen by the School - 1, 5, 6, 10 (expand to view details)

Indicator 1. INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS, FAMILIES, STAFF, AND PARTNERS WHO REPORT FEELING LIKE A VALUABLE MEMBER OF THE SCHOOL OR SCHOOL SYSTEM COMMUNITY

Indicator 5. INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS WHO READ ON OR ABOVE GRADE LEVEL BY THE END OF SECOND GRADE

Indicator 6. INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS IN GRADES 3-8 WHO MEET OR EXCEED EXPECTATIONS ON STANDARDIZED READING, LANGUAGE ARTS, AND MATHEMATICS ASSESSMENTS

Indicator 10. INCREASE THE PERCENTAGE OF STUDENTS ATTENDING SCHOOL ON A DAILY BASIS

We decided to add indicator 10 after reviewing our 2018-2019 attendance data. The data indicated a 94% attendance rate. As a school, we have made it our mission to decrease the number of chronically absent students. During the 2019-2020 school year, we are focusing on the attendance of our FARMS and Hispanic population. Our goal is to decrease our overall chronically absent students by 25%. Additionally, we aim to decrease our FARMS and Hispanic chronically absent students by 25%.

Strategic Journey

  • Throughout the next 3 years, schools will focus on their chosen Strategic Plan Indicators as the drivers to increase student engagement and achievement within their schools.  They will choose strategies to help them grow or increase within each indicator and will monitor and evaluate the student and school changes that take place along the journey.  Below you will see what this school imagines their students and school to look like in 2021 after having focused and worked on their chosen indicators for three years.

Our Vision of Success: 2021

  • During the next two years, we will meet with success and achieve our selected strategic plan indicators. Students will say that they are motivated as learners and prepared for their next step in their educational journey. We will see an increase in overall attendance, and a decrease in the number of students reading below grade level by the end of second grade and in the number of students who require reading intervention. We will achieve this by having teachers embed intervention techniques and strategies in their guided reading instruction. Our school community will see our students take ownership of their ability to read and respond to challenging texts across all content areas. Our school community will also see effective and differentiated instructional strategies within all classrooms to promote the success of all students. Students will feel confident in their reading ability, and they will value reading. Students will persevere through challenging tasks, and they will be able to independently implement decoding strategies as they read on or above grade-level texts.

In addition to academic growth, we will also grow as a community. Students will view themselves as communicators, collaborators, and valued members of the school community. Our families will say that they feel welcomed, heard, and part of the decision-making process. We will see an increase in parent participation in school-wide activities, attendance at after-school functions such as the 5th grade PYP exhibition, and student action in the community. Community partners will say they feel like they contribute to the success of our school. Because they feel appreciated, they will want to continue their partnership with the school. Bus drivers will say that they see a decrease in inappropriate bus behavior, an increase in respect, and an increase in communication with school staff. Food service workers, custodians, and secretaries will say they feel like a valued part of the school community.
