Strategic Plan Indicators
-
After each school leadership team reflected on its school culture, community, and the key contributing factors to student growth, they used this information to select the Strategic Plan Indicators that would have the greatest positive impact for their students. Each school was directed to select two to six indicators on which to focus during the 2018-19 school year. Certainly, we all know that if we focus narrowly and deeply, we are more likely to realize positive results. The indicators that this school’s leadership team selected are noted below.

Strategic Journey
-
Throughout the next 3 years, schools will focus on their chosen Strategic Plan Indicators as the drivers to increase student engagement and achievement within their schools. They will choose strategies to help them grow or increase within each indicator and will monitor and evaluate the student and school changes that take place along the journey. Below you will see what this school imagines their students and school to look like in 2021 after having focused and worked on their chosen indicators for three years.
Our Vision of Success: 2021
-
In order to increase the percentage of students in grades 3-5 who meet or exceed expectations on standardized reading, language arts, and mathematics assessments we will increase arts integrated teaching as well as increase the rigor of instruction. Specifically, teachers will work collaboratively for planning at least once per week with a resource staff member and the administrator for the purpose of growing in their teaching skills through staff to staff discourse and in-house professional development in the areas of Mathematics and English/Language Arts, and arts integration. Teachers will also engage in scheduled professional development opportunities that are school-based as well as offered through AACPS in order to improve their craft. Teachers will work with Resource teachers from the Advanced Learning Program to develop skills necessary for engaging students in ALPS strategies and to utilize ALPS materials and curriculum enhancements.
Teachers will learn to facilitate learning by challenging student thinking at higher levels through the process of questioning, application, and creativity. Teachers will gain a better understanding of data and its use for guiding instructional practices and not to rely solely on the curriculum,
but instead on student prior knowledge and needs. Arts Integration will be used on a regular basis to energize and actively engage students in learning taking a variety of formats. Teachers will participate in a variety of forms of professional development for learning how to integrate the arts into their instruction. Teachers will closely analyze and use arts integration lessons included in the AACPS curricula.

In order to increase the percentage of students, families, staff and partners who report feeling like a valuable member of the school or school system community, Lake Shore Elementary will establish and implement a comprehensive communication and visual plan with associated yearlong timeline for a "You are welcome here!" theme throughout the building/classrooms/office/ and in outreach documents that go to the community. A school motto/message that aligns with our school mascot and sends the message of equity, kindness, active engagement through the arts and makes everyone feel welcome will be created and become the school creed. We will not only exhibit student work but also show a slideshow in our lobby and on our website that demonstrates arts integration but also active participation in learning by our students, staff, and members of our community including events held by our PTA. A photo board displaying members of a new Watch D.O.G.S. program and these fathers as a regular presence in our building as well as volunteers, will facilitate student safety and community involvement.
