Strategic Plan Indicators
-
After each school leadership team reflected on its school culture, community, and the key contributing factors to student growth, they used this information to select the Strategic Plan Indicators that would have the greatest positive impact for their students. Each school was directed to select two to six indicators on which to focus during the 2018-19 school year. Certainly, we all know that if we focus narrowly and deeply, we are more likely to realize positive results. The indicators that this school’s leadership team selected are noted below.

Strategic Journey
-
Throughout the next 3 years, schools will focus on their chosen Strategic Plan Indicators as the drivers to increase student engagement and achievement within their schools. They will choose strategies to help them grow or increase within each indicator and will monitor and evaluate the student and school changes that take place along the journey. Below you will see what this school imagines their students and school to look like in 2021 after having focused and worked on their chosen indicators for three years.
Our Vision of Success: 2021
-
Adult and student routines will focus on the implementation of guided reading. We will have normed the Fountas & Pinnell assessment administration for Belle Grove teachers and implemented the components to effectively deliver and evaluate the reading levels of all students. This will ensure that we are meeting the needs of all students at their instructional level in order to effectively support their growth. The Reading Team will build teacher capacity in all areas of guided reading instruction through professional development, collaborative planning, and coaching. In addition, the Academic Team will use walkthrough data to differentiate teacher support and next steps. Students will be using a variety of strategies to increase engagement while reading, including visible thinking routines, student to student discourse, and the application of “reading goals” (developed during student conferences with teachers).
Students will be more engaged in the guided reading process and feel more confident as readers. They will say that Belle Grove values reading as an important lifelong skill, and they will become voracious readers who read a variety of texts across genres for enjoyment. Students will know teachers want them to succeed, and the school will celebrate their success. Adults will notice a culture of literacy emerging throughout Belle Grove because they will see more proficient readers and fewer students in need of interventions.

By the spring of 2020, teachers will incorporate technology into daily classroom instruction to support growth in the area of literacy and 21st century skills. This will include engaging instructional technology practices, technology-enhanced tasks, and instructional online assessments. Students will say that they are more proficient at using technology to complete assignments.
Students will use growth mindset strategies to improve attitude towards a task, perseverance through challenging literacy experiences, and stamina while reading and writing. Students will say that they are more confident during challenging literacy tasks. They will be able to work for longer periods of time even when something is difficult. Students will feel more successful as they continue achieving higher levels of proficiency. To practice these skills, students will participate in differentiated literacy centers to help them review previously-taught concepts and engage in extended writing tasks. While completing tasks, students will show a greater depth of knowledge through extended written responses. Adults will see students attempting more challenging work with a positive attitude. Teachers will see increased levels of student growth and proficiency.
