The purpose of AVID is to move students from standard classes to more rigorous college-preparatory coursework while providing academic support in the AVID elective. During each AVID class, students receive instruction in reading/writing across the curriculum, note taking & test strategies, study skills, organization, and time management. Another aspect of the program focuses on career and college exploration through guest speakers, college tours, and research assignments. Additionally, as part of the AVID class, students receive tutorial time with trained tutors who facilitate small groups in order to support academic growth within the core content to support student success. Parents and guardians are always welcome to assist in the AVID classroom. We are always looking for tutors for our AVID Tutorials and chaperones for our college tours and field trips.
Upcoming AVID events:
Elementary school visits will occur in February. Applications for the AVID program for 2020-21 school year will be available at your elementary school guidance office and at fall student conference days.
