AVID is an academic elective course comprised of over 90 students at Chesapeake Senior High School. Interested students complete an application and participate in the AVID interview process from which selections are made based on the AVID criteria and available spots.

AVID is designed to provide academic support to students  in order to prepare them for eligibility to four-year colleges and universities. In the AVID elective, students focus on writing, reading, inquiry, collaboration, organization and reading while engaging in higher level thinking, relational capacity and college exploration. AVID students are assisted by AVID Tutors in facilitating small group tutorials with their peers to provide them with support in their core classes.

    • In 2018-2019 AVID graduates received over $800,000 in scholarship money
    • The AVID program at CHS currently has 121 students in grades 9-12
    • 99% of AVID seniors were accepted to either a 4 year college or community college
