• Foreign students and their families work directly with a foreign exchange organization to facilitate a placement in this country/county.  AACPS does not grant J-1 Visas, nor any visas of any kind.  Interested parties should access the  J-1 Advisory List to ensure the agency is  approved by the Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (CSIETA.)

A representative from the foreign exchange organization should contact the  IWC school counselor at the International Welcome Center (IWC) to submit an application for placement.  The IWC will review all applications and determine if space is available in an eligible high school.  Individual schools are not involved in decisions regarding placements for foreign exchange students.  The deadline for placement application is July 15th

Foreign exchange students must be enrolled for the full academic school year (September - June) during the equivalent of their 11th or 12th grade year.  9th or 10th grade students and students who have graduated abroad are not eligible for placement.

AACPS accepts applications from foreign exchange agencies on a first come, first served basis. We cannot guarantee a slot will be available at the school of your choosing.

If you are an employee of an agency looking to place a student in AACPS, please contact the IWC school counselor for more information on our policies and procedures and to request an application packet.
