About Our School
-
Our story began with our building serving grades ECI-5 until 2011 when a new school was built on Ft. Meade that combined Pershing Hill with West Meade Elementary in the new building. After declaring West Meade as a new program, it became West Meade Early Education Center in September 2011. Our focus is early literacy, serving grades Pre-K and Kindergarten. Our school serves the children of Military families housed inside the Ft. Meade complex.
Our school population is diverse in culture, race and economic status. As a school that serves the military community, we are a transient community. In October of 2022, our population consists of 45% Caucasian, 14% African American, 10% Multi-Racial, 29% Hispanic, and 2% Asian.
Currently, we focus on restorative practices and early literacy to develop lifelong learners that will grow to love reading and understand the importance of their social and emotional needs.
As an early education center, our goal in reading is for 90% of our students to meet or exceed grade level expectations to assure their educational success. To build the capacity of our students' social-emotional skills, we will increase the use of restorative practices with students and their families.
