Principal's Message

  • Dear Southgate Community,

I am very enthusiastic about the coming year as we will continue to build on the momentum we generated last year. Specifically, we will continue to grow and deepen our academic program in terms of both curriculum and instruction. Did you know we are recognized as an IB World School? We aim “to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.” Our educators build positive relationships with students and families, hold high expectations for all students and maintain a safe and supporting learning environment.

Our school team continues to grow. Did you know we have 30 classroom teachers, supported by 10 Resource teachers, 10 Cultural Arts teachers, and the best secretarial and custodial staff educating over 700 students? That’s why we need you! I strongly encourage each of you to volunteer and join our PTA. Our goal will be to match your skills to our school’s needs as well as be creative about the ways we can get parents involved in new ways to support student learning. In my 16 years of education, I found that having a positive partnership with families is a must!

My goal is to learn every child’s name and know them as learners and citizens. Furthermore, our students know that they can come to the office to share about something positive they have done at school or something they are proud of - the school’s office is a place to celebrate student achievement. Our teachers even recognize students for going above and beyond with Positive Referrals. Students who are awarded with a Positive Referral are rewarded for their efforts by myself and our Assistant Principal, Mrs. McFarland.

I am truly overjoyed to lead and participate in such a fantastic school. Together, we will do incredible things for student learning. We are educating our future! Let’s Go, Tigers!
