Principal's Message

  • Dear South Shore families,

My name is Stacy Shafran (formerly Fleisher) and I am the principal at South Shore Elementary School. I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the South Shore community. I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than thirteen years. During this time, my experiences include teaching in both primary and intermediate classrooms, being an elementary school reading specialist and most recently an elementary school assistant principal at Folger McKinsey Elementary School.

Along with staff, I will work hard to continue the legacy of success established at South Shore by building strong relationships with parents, students, staff, and community partners. This year we will focus on our use of data to inform instruction, strategies to increase students’ achievement in Maryland College and Career-Ready Standards, and providing exciting and challenging enrichment opportunities for all students.

One of my favorite things to do is share exciting news. It is with great pleasure that I would like to announce that South Shore has earned the authorization to offer the Primary Years Programme (PYP) of the International Baccalaureate (IB)! We are now an official IB World School! The announcement of authorization is a momentous time for our whole school community and we are looking forward to celebrating this achievement! I cannot be more proud of every stakeholder who has been involved in this journey of re-culturing our school identity, raising our academic direction to the high standards of the IBO’s 21st Century vision, and observing the commitment from all members of the South Shore community.

During the course of the year, I am eager to work together to provide the students of South Shore Elementary the best possible opportunities in preparing them to be world-class citizens ready to master the challenges of the 21st Century with a solid foundation created here at our school. As principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to stop in, email or call to discuss any concerns, suggestions, or ideas to help make this the best year yet!
