Principal's Message

  • Welcome to Manor View Elementary School! We’re so glad you’re here!

The 2017-2018 school year will focus on the academic and social/emotional growth for both our new and returning students. We have a few new staff members joining the Manor View team, and some teachers have changed grade levels. Our new staff members bring an element of expertise to support our focus on literacy skills and our “Intentionality” in all that we do. Our school’s S.O.A.R. pledge (Safe, Organized, Accountable and Respectful) will engage, empower and educate all of our Manor View Eagles to be successful in school and life while having fun learning in a positive environment.

We will continue to align the PYP (Primary Years Programme) with the Maryland Common Core Readiness Standards (CCRS) in order for all students to be college and career ready. Our School Improvement Plan focuses on the following areas:

    • Improve the reading skills of students to interact with and understand complex text so that all students are reading on or above grade level.
    • Use math manipulatives and Standards of Mathematical Practices to have students “make sense” of mathematics and solve problems in various ways.
    • Become proficient writers in all content areas.
    • Help students understand how academic content is related through transdisciplinary learning and the Primary Years Programme.
    • Build a classroom and school community, and the social/emotional capacity of students through the use of Restorative Circles.

Student growth in reading will be measured using the Fountas and Pinnell (F&P) Reading Assessment. Students’ F&P reading level will be monitored throughout the year and communicated with parents as “approaching,” “meeting,” or “beyond” grade level expectations to ensure high quality and rigorous instruction.

When there are academic, social/emotional, or work habit concerns parents will be asked to come to school to conference with the teacher. Parent-Teacher conference days are scheduled in October, December, and March. Please be sure to communicate with your child’s teacher whenever there are concerns.

A huge thank you goes to our PTA for all they do for our students and school. I look forward to further developing our community partnerships and relationships as well as building a strong parent volunteer program.  Strong parent and community support; students coming to school who are respectful, responsible and ready to learn; and a committed and talented staff have been the key ingredients to Manor View Elementary being a highly successful school.

I am delighted to be the principal of a school whose faculty and staff are extremely dedicated to helping students be successful through exciting and challenging learning opportunities. As in previous years, we will continue offering numerous extracurricular clubs and enrichment opportunities both during the school day and before or after regular school hours.

Please know that I am always a phone call or email away for questions, comments, or concerns. You can easily reach me at I look forward to another wonderful school year and my fourth year as principal at Manor View Elementary.
