    Programme of Inquiry

    Germantown Elementary School

    Programme of Inquiry

Students inquire into, and learn about, globally significant issues in the context of units of inquiry, each of which addresses a central idea relevant to a particular transdisciplinary theme. Lines of inquiry are identified in order to explore the scope of the central idea for each unit. These units collectively constitute the school’s programme of inquiry.

    The Italian Language

Below you will find links to resources that you and your child may use as we integrate Italian into our daily routines. http://www.theitalianexperiment.com/stories/

ELA is English for Speakers of other Languages.

    • ELA classes are for children who speak a language other than English at home. We provide additional language, reading and writing support.
    • SIX full-time ESOL teachers support approximately 120 students.
    • We have one bilingual Spanish/English parent liaison who facilitates home/school communication.

The results of a standardized English Language Proficiency Test determine which students are qualified for ESOL services.

Children receive additional small group instruction throughout the day with other English language learners.

ESOL classes will help your child be more confident and successful in their mainstream classroom.

    • Speak your native language at home! Ask your child what he/she does in school every day.
    • Read to your child at home every day in your native language or English.   Talk about what you read.
    • Encourage your child to read to you in your native language or English.   Talk about what you read. Check out books from our Spanish Book Club!
    • Please feel free to contact your child’s ESOL teacher or the bilingual liaison at 410-222-1615.
