Parents Guide to School Health
This Anne Arundel County Department of Health site connects families to information regarding school health services, school immunization requirements, disease prevention, healthy behaviors, and more.

Raising Healthy Kids
The Anne Arundel County Department of Health also maintains a website on general health and wellness information for families. Among the many topics included are: healthy eating, physical activity, tobacco-use prevention teen health, and sun safety.

Parent Workshops and Conferences

The Office of School and Family Partnerships offers two countywide parent conferences each year.  Sessions cover a wide range of topics related to parent involvement, including student health and wellness. Health-related topics at past conferences have included: “Healthy Lifestyles – a Two Pronged Approach”; and “Food 4 Thought”.  Information about the upcoming parent conference can be found at http://www.aacps.org/family/.

Anne Arundel County Council of PTAs

PTA is the largest volunteer child advocacy group in the United States.  PTA encourages parent involvement in schools; advocates on behalf of all children in schools, communities and legislatures; and supports families as they raise their children.  One of PTA’s goals is to help “…children be safe, healthy, and successful – in school and in life”.   National PTA offers many health and wellness programs and resources.  To find out more, visit www.pta.org.  

AACCPTA supports local school PTAs through professional training and support, financial oversight, legislative and advocacy efforts, and networking opportunities.  An AACCPTA representative is a member of the AACPS Wellness Committee.

Countywide Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC)

The CAC advises and reports to the Anne Arundel County Board of Education on issues affecting the education of children in Anne Arundel County Public Schools that are brought to it by county citizens. A Countywide CAC representative is a member of the AACPS Wellness Committee.  In addition, the Countywide CAC’s Wellness Sub-Committee addresses questions and concerns about health and wellness brought to it by community members.
