Welcome to the Anne Arundel County Public Schools
2007 Teacher Job Fair!

We hope that this will be the beginning of a long and fulfilling career for you in our school system.  On this site, you will be able to register for the job fair, link to our application if you have not already applied, and learn about the procedures for the job fair.  In addition to registering for the fair, please be sure to read the Frequently Asked Questions section below to help you be more prepared for a successful day at the fair.  We are looking forward to seeing you on May 5th.

 Job Fair FAQs

  1. What time should I arrive at the fair?

The job fair begins at 8:00.  We will open the doors shortly before 8:00 for check in.  You will then be sent to the auditorium for orientation and to receive your materials for the day.

  1. What happens after the orientation?

You will be given time to sign up for interviews in 30 minute intervals between 8:30 and 2:30.

a)     If you have not already had a screening interview with an Anne Arundel County Public Schools representative at the central office, a job fair, or a PDS site, you will need to complete a screening interview at the job fair.

b)     If you have already had a screening interview, or you sign up for one at the job fair, you will be able to meet with principals and other representatives of our schools to discuss job opportunities and to interview for those opportunities.

  1. How will I know which schools to ask for interviews?

Prepare for the job fair by studying information about our schools on the aacps.org website and develop a preliminary list of schools you wish to see.  Lists of all current vacancies will be posted at the fair.  In addition, maps of the county will be posted with the schools noted.  You may want to interview with schools that have openings in your content area or schools in the geographic area in which you want to teach.  Please be aware that it is very early in the hiring season, and many more vacancies will occur.  If you are interested in a school, and it does not currently have a vacancy, you are encouraged to interview anyway for future vacancies.

  1. What should I bring to the job fair?

You should bring at least 20 copies of your resume if you plan to interview with the principals.  In addition to your resumes, you should bring copies of any application materials that you have not already submitted to AACPS including transcripts, Praxis scores, teaching certificates, and verification of previous teaching experience.

There will be resume drop-off boxes outside all school interview sites for those who may not be able to get an interview that day but who have an interest in the school.  Please note, however, that after the job fair, principals may only interview those candidates who have been sent to the schools by the Division of Human Resources.

  1. What kind of information will be available at the job fair?

Representatives from various offices in the school system will be available to assist you and answer any questions you may have regarding, but not limited to:

  • Curriculum

  • Certification

  • New teacher support programs

  • Professional development opportunities

  • Employee benefits

  • National Board Certified Teachers

  • Substitute teaching

  • Fingerprinting (If you wish, you may be fingerprinted at the job fair.  The charge is $68.)

Local colleges and universities will be present to explain graduate programs and certification programs available to our teachers.

  1. Can I actually be offered a job at the job fair?

The answer to this question depends on the status of your application, your selection by a principal, and the human resources specialist assigned to the school’s grade level.  If your application is complete with all required supporting documentation, and a principal selects you for a position, you may be offered a job by a human resources specialist at the fair or during the week following the fair.  Open contracts may also be offered to candidates certified in high needs content areas.  Please note that regular contracts and open contracts can only be offered by human resources specialists.

  1. Is the fair for current AACPS teachers?

No, current AACPS teachers wishing to change positions should use the Unit I voluntary transfer process.

  1. Is the fair for teachers only?

Interviews are available for teachers, guidance counselors and media specialists only.

Individuals interested in all other positions, including instructional assistants, should follow the information on our Human Resources website regarding application procedures.

  1. Should I apply to AACPS before attending the fair?

Yes, apply online at the aacps.org website.  We will have computers available at the fair for candidates to apply on site; however, this will take up some of your time that you might rather use for interviewing or getting questions answered.  Please note that registering for the job fair is a separate process from applying to work for the school system.

  1. Is there a hotel near the job fair for candidates coming in from out of town?

The hotel closest to North County High School is the Comfort Inn BWI Airport.  To reserve a room, call the hotel at (410) 789-9100 and ask for the Anne Arundel Schools rate.
