AACPS
COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT 2010 PARENT SURVEY
During
November-December 2010, the annual Parent Community Engagement survey was
conducted by AACPS. This survey, conducted for the first time
in 2008, is used to gauge whether schools are welcoming, family
friendly, and communicate to parents about programs and activities
effectively. Results are used to judge progress on community
engagement goals in the system’s Strategic Plan, which runs through
2012. More than
13,340 parents filled out the 2010 survey, a decrease of about 9 percent
from 2010. Ninety-four percent of respondents said they were well
informed about events and activities at schools, and
50 percent said
they have had the opportunity to view the School Improvement Plan at
their child’s school. The latter result is a six percentage point
increase from last year, when all School Improvement Plans were put
online for the first time.
The surveys represent parents of approximately 22,300 of 75,500
students in the AACPS school system. More than 71 percent of the
surveys were completed by parents or guardians of children at the
elementary school level. Nearly 24 percent came from middle schools,
and 4.9 percent came from high schools. A summary of the
results is below. |
