Anne Arundel County Public Schools (AACPS) is encouraging parents who are enrolling their children in a school for the first time or transferring them to a different school to complete the registration process this month for the 2006-2007 school year, which begins on Monday, August 28.
Registering early is particularly important at the secondary level to facilitate course scheduling. Early registration also provides the transportation information needed to plan school bus routes.
When registering early, parents have an opportunity to obtain information on programs offered at their school – including honors, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate, in addition to extended learning opportunities. Counselors can also assist with school transfer information and respond to other issues or concerns.
“It is critically important for parents to register their children as early as possible,’’ said Dr. Kevin Maxwell, Superintendent of Schools. “By registering early, parents can avoid a last minute rush and can have more control over their child’s schedule as well as have more knowledge of their child’s coursework before school even begins.”
Proof of age is required for all kindergarten and new first-grade students. AACPS encourages parents who must register their child for school to contact their child’s school guidance department for assistance with the process.
The following documents will be necessary for enrollment:

Residency Documentation (lease, mortgage papers, or tenant verification form)
Second form of Residency Documentation (may include property tax bill, utility bill, current bank statement)
