PROGRAMS AND POLICIES of the
public schools are established by a nine-member Board of Education. Eight
board members serve overlapping terms of five years each and are appointed by
the Governor. Board members may serve two consecutive terms. The
ninth member is a high school senior elected by student government
representatives as their nominee to the Governor to serve a one-year term. The
Board meets twice a month during the school year, on the first and third
Wednesdays at the administration building on
Riva Road in Annapolis. All meetings are open to the public, and citizen
participation is encouraged. Board members are
non-paid volunteers.
The
day-to-day administration of the school system is the responsibility of the
The Superintendent of
Schools,
who is appointed by the Board for a term of four years. There is no limit to the
number of terms a superintendent may serve.

The Board of Education
meets twice a month during the school year, on the 1st Wednesday,
beginning at 10 am & on the 3rd Wednesday, beginning at 7 p.m., at the
administration building, 2644 Riva Road, Annapolis.

Special meetings, such as budget hearings, are scheduled annually. All meetings are open to the public
& citizen participation is encouraged. Citizens may comment during agenda items discussions as well as bring non-agenda items to the board during the 30-minute public participation part of the meeting.
