TALENT DEVELOPMENT MODEL FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

The Talent Development Model...

  • Ensures communication among all school staff with regard to the education of gifted learners.

  • Provides appropriate educational opportunities for in-depth study of integrated and sophisticated content in our curricula.

  • Provides direct services working with students, and indirect services (lessons and activities developed and implemented collaboratively by the classroom and Talent Development teachers).

  • Creates a flexible model in which students receive services based on their needs.

Program Benefits

  • Gifted education and general education are related, connected, and integrated.

  • The Talent Development Teacher, classroom teacher, administrators, and support staff plan and deliver instruction that is appropriate for students' abilities.  This provides opportunities to meet new challenges.

  • The Talent Development Model targets all advanced students, including non-identified students, who demonstrate a need for services.

Co-Plan

The Talent Development Teacher joins the classroom teacher during planning sessions to ensure that student activities are connected and interrelated in order to facilitate student transfer of learning.

Co-Teach

The Talent Development Model supports various approaches to cooperative teaching that make the most of instructional time and increase the grouping possibilities.  This can include provisions delivered both in the regular classroom and in the resource room.

Follow-Up

The Talent Development Teacher and classroom teacher monitor students' learning and share responsibility for evaluating student work to determine the course of future study.
