Children
who do not meet the age requirements and were admitted early to a
non-public kindergarten program will not automatically be enrolled in
grade 1 in Anne Arundel County Public Schools. The child’s
parents/guardians can apply for early admission to grade 1 and if the
child meets the performance requirements required by AACPS regulations
then the child will be granted early admission. The first step in this
process is registering for kindergarten at the elementary school
assigned to the family’s residence and completing the early admission to
grade 1 application.
You will
need to bring the following documents with you when you register your
child:
-
Child’s birth certificate

Early
Admission to Grade One
Anne
Arundel County Public Schools has developed a process and guidelines for
early admission to Grade One. A parent of guardian may request early
admission to first grade if their child meets the following criteria:
-
The
child turns six years of age after September 1 and on or before
October 15 of the school year for which they are requesting early
admission
-
The
child demonstrates exceptional achievement and ability on
standardized tests
-
Applications submitted between the April kindergarten registration
period and the beginning of kindergarten
The
procedures for requesting early admission to grade one are conducted at
the child's home school. The process and guidelines documents are
available on AACPS Intranet (search: Early Childhood/Early Admission
Forms).
