The STEM@ Meade project focuses on creating a rich STEM culture at four of the Anne Arundel County Public elementary schools (Manor View, Meade Heights, Pershing Hill, and West Meade) that feed into Meade High School, located on the Fort George Meade military installation. Careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) are some of the fastest growing career fields in the country.Through curricular, co-curricular, and family outreach activities, along with a rigorous STEM professional development program for teachers, Mathematics and science achievement will increase significantly at each grade level, preparing all students for college and careers, furthering the Superintendent’s initiative to eliminate the achievement gap. Stakeholder groups from schools, parents, community partners, and STEM professionals provide experiences for both students and teachers to implement and sustain the STEM culture.
STEM@Meade is funded by The Department of Defense Education Activity (DODEA) grant from the Office of the Secretary of Defense. Over a period of three years, these funds are being used to help build the culture and capacity within the elementary schools, eventually building a pipeline from grades Pre-K through post-secondary and beyond.
