Marley Elementary Earns Rewards School Recognition From MSDE
Despite an increasing number (69.9 percent last year) of students who receive free and reduced-price meals (FARMS) at Marley, 92.7 percent of the school’s FARMS students performed proficiently in math on the 2012 MSA. With 93.8 percent of all students at the school scoring proficiently last year, the achievement gap for FARMS students is a mere 1.1 percentage points.
Beyond preparations for the state-mandated test, part of the school’s success can be attributed to its focus on encouraging students to make good choices and creating an enticing learning environment. The results of such focus can be seen in the school’s reduction in referrals (from 635 in 2005 to 167 last year) and its 95.9 percent attendance rate last year.
