“It takes a lot of commitment by school staff to conduct this program, so I am ecstatic and grateful that we are able to reach more children this summer,” said AACPS Food and Nutrition Services Supervisor Jodi Risse. “Summer meals are a continuation of the healthy meals we serve throughout the school year. Reaching our children throughout the summer will help them return to school ready to learn.”
Using federal funds provided by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Summer Food Service Program (SFSP), Anne Arundel County Public Schools also serves meals at various summer school and summer camp sites and works with various organizations and agencies to help feed their young participants. For the first time, there will also be a mobile meals service that will bring meals to certain communities in West County, including Sarah’s House. Applicable neighborhoods will receive notice of when the mobile meals will be available.
