To ensure that students continue to grow during the summer break, we would appreciate your help. We encourage you to include learning opportunities during the summer months. Here are some ideas for summer thinking and learning opportunities for your child:
-Keep a journal a journal
-Send a post card to: Sunset Elementary School, 8572 Ft.
Smallwood Road, Pasadena, MD 21122 (Please send cards so that we display the location of your family’s trip)
-Review math facts daily
-Visit new places. Show your child how to use a road map or a GPS
-Read the words on the signs along the way. List license plate numbers and put them in numerical order.
Students will also bring home summer reading and math practice materials with their final report cards. To practice reading skills, students may complete and return the Lifetouch Bookmarks indicating that they have read 20 or more minutes daily during summer and/or evidence from the Anne Arundel County Library Summer Reading Program. To maintain math skills student are encouraged to complete a packet of math activities and return their work to school in August. Certificates and prize coupons (e.g., Chick-fil-A) will be given to students who complete their summer practice work and return it. Finally, we are looking forward to a big summer construction project at Sunset. Students in Grades Pre-K, K, 1st, 2nd, & 3rd will return in August to 21st century classrooms with walls, new technology, and lockers.
Enjoy your summer,
