GuidanceThe guidance office is staffed by four counselors.
Our mission is to work with and for children, parents and
teachers to ensure the success of our students academically, socially, and
emotionally. We serve as liaisons between teachers and
parents and we serve as supports for our students. You can locate information on Advanced Studies offered at
the Naval Academy, Anne Arundel Community College, and Maryland Hall in the
Guidance office. We also have available
applications for the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth. As a service to our students seeking excellence in
academics, we offer a Peer Tutoring service after school on Wednesdays
and Thursdays. Eighth grade members
of the National Junior Honor Society have been trained to tutor students in all
areas of academics. Parents and
teachers may refer students for this service or students may self-refer.
This service is free, and there are activity buses to take students home.
Please contact Mrs. Chandler for more information. For students having difficulty adjusting to middle school
schedules, forgetting materials for homework or class work, or being disorganized,
we offer Peer Mentoring. Peer
Mentors work one-on-one with these students, serving as “big brothers” or
“big sisters.” Please contact Mrs.
Chandler if you believe your child would benefit from having a Peer Mentor. When students get into conflicts with each other, are taunted or teased, or spread rumors, they may be referred to Peer Mediators. Peer Mediators work with the students involved to solve their own problems. These mediators have been recommended by their teachers and then trained by the guidance staff to use communication, listening, and questioning skills to guide disputants to a resolution. Parents who may have questions or concerns should contact the guidance office at 410-647-7900. This page was last modified on October 24, 2008
