Your School Nurse is a Registered Nurse – Jason Grunder, R.N.

The School Nurse is responsible for managing medication administration; developing nursing assessments on special needs students; and developing emergency protocols for children with chronic health conditions. He is also responsible for performing student health appraisals, and mandated vision, and hearing screening. Mr. Grunder monitors chronic health conditions, develops and implements student care plans, advises school teams on health issues, and assists with the management of disabled students in the school.

As a member of the regular school team, Mr. Grunder works in conjunction with Administrators, Guidance Counselors, Special Educators, School Psychologist, and a Pupil Personnel Worker to develop special procedures for students, manage immunization compliance, control communicable disease and improve attendance.

Your School Health Assistant is Pam Rex.
The Health Assistant in each school is primarily responsible for managing the health room, providing first aid and administering oral medications as delegated by the school nurse. At SRMS, Mrs. Rex usually sees 100 to 125 students daily. She provides on-site care for our students’ immediate health needs, keeps the families and School Nurse informed of health room visits as needed, and maintains statistics and health room records on over 800 students.

What if my child needs medicine at school?

All medication given at school must be prescribed by a physician on Anne Arundel form 2210/0 (Parent’s Request to Administer Medication at School). This includes over the counter medications. This form is available from the health room or guidance office. Please Note: All over the counter medicines MUST be in an UNOPENED container when brought to the Health Room.  This can be done at any time.

What if I need more information?

“A Parent’s Guide to School Health” can be found at the Anne Arundel County Department of Health.   It includes information on topics ranging from when to keep children home from school to packing easy, healthy lunches. Please check out this excellent source of information.

Remember that the Health Room welcomes phone calls and visits from parents regarding any concerns for their children! Please keep your school health team informed of pertinent information regarding your child’s health needs. We are here to assist you and your child.

We Care!
