PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Report cards for the second marking period go home today.  Please take a few minutes to review your child’s progress and discuss the report with your child.  Praise your child’s accomplishments and make a plan for improvement, if needed.  Teachers are available to provide suggestions for ways parents can support their children at home. Daily reading and practicing math facts are excellent strategies for increasing your child’s fluency with reading and math. Feel free to contact your child’s teacher to discuss the report card if you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to accompany their child’s class on a field trip this month.  Anne Arundel County Public School’s policy is that all chaperones must have a background check completed and approved prior to the field trip.  For optimal supervision of the children on the trip, chaperones are requested to remain with the group at all times and refrain from using cell phones and other electronic devices unless it is an emergency situation.  Smoking is prohibited on school field trips.

This month our young performing artists will have opportunities to shine!  The Northeast Feeder System Chorus Concert is on Friday, February 17th at Northeast High School and our own Riviera Beach Elementary Chorus Concert will be held on Wednesday, February 22nd.  The Star Dancers will perform at the AACPS Dance Festival at Chesapeake High School on Friday, February 10th.  Best of luck to all of our talented students!

Parents of 5th graders are invited to meet Mr. Russ Austin, Principal of George Fox Middle School, in our Media Center on Thursday, February 23rd at 6:00 pm.  Mr. Austin will explain the middle school program of study and answer any questions you may have about transitioning to middle school.

Please join us at Family Reading Night on Tuesday, February 28th at 6:00 pm.  Children and parents of all ages will enjoy the fun, interactive learning activities and refreshments.  I’ll look forward to seeing you there!
