“Open the Magic Door- READ!”

The Media Center has it’s own mascot, “Ramses the Penguin,” donated by the Milstred family. Ramses can be found all around the media center encouraging our students to read, as he does everyday.  Ramses has also been awarding chances for his grab bag to students who are keeping their adopted shelves in good order. Please check with your child to see if they have dipped into Ramses’ grab bag this month.

The media Center needs donations of the cardboard boxes that juice pouches come in ( example: Kool-Aid Jammers, Capri-Sum  etc). The boxes will be wrapped in colored paper and placed on book shelves behind the books to keep the books upright and neat. Please recycle these boxes to the Media Center.  Thank You!

Volunteer in the school Media Center! Volunteers are always needed in the Media Center. Please stop by or contact Mrs. Dahlheim at school, or leave a message with the office, 410-222-6573, or email adahlheim@aacps.org.

CHESSIE BOOK CLUB READING PROGRAM

Chessie is an exciting reading program for students in grades 1-3. Students earn a sailboat, which will be on the Chessie Reading Chart, after reading 5 books. As the student continues to read new titles, additional incentives items will be added to their boat. Our goal is to encourage children to read and enjoy books.

Make the night before Chessie Day a “re-read night”! Encourage your child to read his/her Chessie book just before Chessie Day to pass the quiz and check out another Chessie book!

CHESSIE SENIOR BOOK CLUB READING PROGRAM

The Chessie Senior Book Club is for students in grades 4 and 5. The books offered include classics and award winners. Students in fourth and fifth grade Chessie Senior will meet on Wednesdays, before classes begin.

This year Chessie Senior students will be “sailing up the bay” on a map in the upstairs hallway. Every three books read means a stop at an historic lighthouse on the Chesapeake.

Volunteers needed for Chessie Reading Incentive Programs!
Please contact Mrs. Dahlheim by email adahlheim@aacps.org or
Wendi Russell Volunteer Coordinator.

READING INCENTIVE PROGRAMS

Reading incentives take place all year long at Pasadena Elementary School. Please encourage your student to make a habit of reading between 10-20 minuets a day. Reading before or after meals; read while traveling to practice, sports, dance, gymnastics or music lessons. Read before bed and while waiting for the bus.   Reading is a habit that will last a lifetime! Open the Magic Door  and READ!
