Mrs. Carolyn Bonk, Media Assistant

Students are encouraged to use our Media Center, not only for reference and informational needs, but also for personal enjoyment and enrichment.  The library media program provides services to students and staff, varied print and non print resources, and an instructional program to both compliment and support the educational goals of Anne Arundel County Public Schools.
Hours:

8:15 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.

Media Center Programs to Encourage Reading:

Book Talks
Media Specialist will visit classrooms to give motivational introductions to books in our media center encouraging student voluntary reading.

Media Books & Games Club
The Media Center is open during club time after school on Thursdays from 3 - 3:45 for students to relax and read or play mind-challenging games like chess, scrabble, hangman, and boggle.  Activity buses are available for transportation home.

Guest Reader
Adults serving as role models for reading enjoyment are invited to school to read aloud 15 to 20 minutes from a book chosen by the media specialist.  The book is then given to one of the students in a random drawing.

Guest Speakers
Speakers are invited to the media center during school to present information of interest to students who have signed up for the program.  A tie to this information in books will be made to encourage personal reading.

Book Fair
The Media Center will offer students and parents a chance to purchase books, CD's, computer software, and posters for leisure reading and personal enjoyment. Profits from this event are used to enhance the resources and services of the Media Center, as well as to provide positive behavior incentives for our students. The date will be announced later.

Scholastic Book Club Orders
Each month, Scholastic Book Club order forms are distributed through Language Arts classes.  Students may purchase inexpensive books to build their home libraries.  Orders are collected by the media center.

Circulation Policy:
Students may check out two books for a period of 2 weeks.  Overdue notices are distributed monthly to students in their Language Arts classes.  No fees are charged for overdue materials but students are expected to return books on time and to pay for media materials which are lost or damaged while checked out under their name.

Parent Resource Center:
A collection of books, videocassettes, and pamphlets of special interest to parents is available in the Media Center to check out for 2 weeks.  Resources cover topics ranging from parenting skills to adoption, and from understanding learning disabilities to communication skills.

Volunteers:
Parents, guardians, and grandparents are encouraged to volunteer as a media aide.  Duties are tailored to your interests and times are flexible.  Come join us in the Media Center!
