Who is on the health care team at Marley Middle School?
A full time registered nurse and a certified health assistant staff the health room at Marley Middle School.
The School Nurse is Mrs. Judy Jackson, a registered nurse.  Mrs. Jackson is responsible for overseeing medication administration, developing nursing assessments for special needs students and developing emergency plans for students with chronic health conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, or bee sting allergies.  She is also responsible for coordinating screenings for scoliosis and vision and hearing which are required by Maryland law.  The school nurse monitors chronic health conditions of students and staff, advises school staff on health issues, provides health teaching and makes home visits.  Mrs. Jackson works with administrators, guidance counselors, school psychologist, pupil personnel worker to develop special procedures for students, manage immunization compliance, control communicable diseases and improve attendance.

Mrs. Michele Jackson, the health assistant is primarily responsible for managing the health room, providing first aid for injured students and staff and administering oral medications as delegated by the school nurse.  Mrs. Jackson sees an average of 70 to 90 students each day in the health room.
 
 

  What if my child needs medication at school?
All medication given at school must be prescribed by a doctor on the Parent's Request to Administer Medication at School form and must be signed by parents.  This form is also needed for over the counter medications such as cough drops or Tylenol
.
What else should I know?
Please remember that your health team welcomes phone calls and visits from parents regarding any concerns for their children.  Please keep your health team informed of pertinent information about your child's health needs. We care and are here to assist you and your child. 

It is also important that you keep your child's emergency information  updated so that we can reach you during the day if your child is ill, has a fever or is injured.
