PRE-KINDERGARTEN REGISTRATION

Countywide pre-kindergarten registration for the 2008-2009 school year will begin in elementary schools during the week of April 14-18, 2008.    Lothian’s registration will be from 9:30 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.    Children who are 4 by September 1, 2008, are eligible to apply for the 2008-2009 school year.  

To apply, parents should bring their child’s original birth certificate, a copy of the immunization record and TWO proofs of residency including a lease/rental agreement or mortgage document and utility bill. The Maryland Immunization Regulation requests that the immunization record list all immunizations with the dates of each vaccination, be signed by a physician, health department official or school official, and be approved by the admitting schools.  Children enrolled in pre-kindergarten must show proof of four diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis (DTP or DTaP), three polio, one measles, one mumps, one rubella, one Varicella (Chicken Pox), three Hepatitis B and one PCV7, and one Hib vaccines. All doses of Hib, measles, mumps, rubella, and Varicella should be given on or after the first birthday. Immunizations must be completed before students attend school.

The pre-kindergarten program in public elementary schools selects four year olds based on economic and education need.   If applying due to economic need, proof of household income (1040) will be required.   Using criteria established by the Maryland State Department of Education, Anne Arundel County Public Schools will review each application.   Parents will be notified by July 15, 2008, whether their child has been accepted or placed on a waiting list.   For more information, contact Barbara Griffith, Coordinator of Early Childhood, at 410-222-5441, or visit www.aacps.org.
