 CELEBRATION BOOK NEWS

Mrs. Phelps

The Celebration Books program continues! This is a great way to help our library grow. If you are interested in “donating” a book to the library, please see the sheet in this newsletter for instructions on how to do a Celebration Book. The following people have graciously “donated” books recently:

*No books were donated this month. Please consider donating a book. There are great books from which the students may choose. If you are the parent of a fifth grader, it is wonderful to leave a book in their elementary library with their name in it to be enjoyed after they have gone on to middle school.

Thank you!!   Thank you!!   Thank you!!

BLACK-EYED SUSAN VOTING PARTY

Mrs. Phelps

The following students were invited to a pizza party in the media center to vote for their favorite NEW Black-Eyed Susan chapter book. Each year 10 new chapter books come out. To be eligible to vote for their favorite one, students must read at least 3 of these books and answer questions about them. The votes are then sent to a Maryland state committee, where all the votes throughout Maryland will be counted. I will announce the results of the state votes in next month’s newsletter. In the meantime, the book that received the most votes from these students was Listen ! by Stephanie Tolan. Thank you for your participation and keep reading!

STORYTELLER NIGHT

Mrs. Phelps

A BIG thank you goes out to everyone that attended storyteller night! It was a busy week for school functions and I appreciate those who were able to join us. Ms. Millan held the audiences attention with her wonderful stories. I would again like to thank the students who attended for their wonderful behavior during the performance. We raised $466.00 for our technology initiative! It was a fun and profitable evening.

REQUEST FROM MRS. PHELPS

If you are looking to get rid of some books for ages preschool to fifth grade and they are in good shape (not ripped or drawn in), I am seeking donations. Sometimes I can use the books to put on the library shelves (especially if they are hardback books), but I am especially needing them for my book donation shelves. I like to reward students with books when they do things such as summer reading, winning Marvelous Media Manners, helping me in the media center, participating in reading incentive programs, etc. I can always use nice books to replenish my donation shelves. Also, check with your child’s classroom teacher as they may be in need of some nice books for their classroom libraries.

Celebration Books

Sponsored by the PTA

If you are interested in seeing our library grow, consider donating money toward a new book. Your donation would be used to purchase a new, approved book.

This is a wonderful way to recognize your child’s birthday or honor a special teacher, friend, or family member. It is also a great way to celebrate a graduation, religious accomplishment, new sibling, or any “special” occasion.

A Celebration Book is a lasting contribution to Lothian Elementary. If you would like to participate in this worthwhile cause, please enclose your cash, check, or money order in the amount of $15.00 and the form below in an envelope marked “Celebration Books – Media Center”. You or your child will select a book from a special collection found in the Library Media Center. A bookplate will be placed in the front of the book with the inscription of your choice. Your child will then be the first one to check out the book.

At the end of the year, there will be a celebration in the Library Media Center to thank all the students (and their families), as well as staff members, who donated a book(s). If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Tammy Phelps, the Library Media Specialist at 410-222-1697. Please make checks payable to: Lothian Elementary PTA.
