It is hard to believe that this is our February newsletter! We certainly have been fortunate with the weather so far this season. Remember to listen to the radio or check the school system website for closing information should a snow or ice event occur. This is also a good time to review your emergency plans. Make sure that your children know what to do to the schools would close early. Call the school office (410)-222-6490 to update any emergency phone numbers/emergency plans.
Congratulations to Ms. Schmidt on receiving her National Board Certification. Also Congratulations to 2 students having their artwork displayed at the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
February is an important month in county schools as state testing draws near. Teachers used the Staff Development Days to plan for the success of every student at Jessup. All teachers focused on ways to ensure that EVERY student is reading and performing in math on or above grade level. Your support and assistance at home is critical. Please read nightly and review their work. Also, use the Envision website (pearsonsuccessnet.com) to review and practice math skills with your child at home as well as Blackboard. Call your child’s teacher if you need the login information. Please plan to attend our Parent University on February 9 (see attached flyer. There will be activities and demonstrations for everyone in the family.
Math and Reading Assessments have been completed on all students. I would encourage you to call your child’s teacher to discuss the results. A “Parent Form for Reading/Math Assessment” for second marking period will be coming home with the Report Card for Grades 2-5.
In grades 3, 4 and 5 our emphasis is for success on the upcoming Maryland Sate Assessment (MSA) that will be given March 13-14 (Reading) and March 20-21 (Math). If at all possible, please do not schedule doctor appointments or vacations on those days. Also encourage your children to regularly get enough rest and eat a good breakfast. We know that an alert, happy student will perform to the best of his/her ability. Staff members have worked diligently to provide the very best learning experience for all students. Now it is time for our wonderful boys and girls to “Show what they know!” In order for Jessup to make AYP Annual Yearly Progress) and significant reading and math gains as we have every year, everyone in Grade 3,4, and 5 needs to be present to take the assessment. Thanks, as always for your support and dedication to our goals.
This month we will have our Success Celebration to recognize students who performed well every day. This special event will be held on Friday, February 17, 2012, (K-2 ) Assembly 9:00-10:00 and Intermediate (3-5) Assembly 10:15-11:15. Parents are welcome to attend.
