Library Media Mission Statement

The George Fox Library Media Program supports the

educational goals of Anne Arundel County and Maryland State Department of Education. To that end, the Library Media program supports the Middle School curriculum and students’ development into life long readers whose technological and research skills allow them to be productive citizens.

All Library Media Content Area projects require students to utilize and extract information from a variety of print and electronic sources. In completion of their Media/Content Area projects , students practice life long habits of effective research skills.

They develop the ability to locate and identify valid information in print and electronic sources. They work to develop critical thinking skills, which lead to new knowledge and understanding producing final products based in the facts they locate. Responsible use and

credit to originators in the form of bibliography is required as an integral part of project completion.

Curiosity and interest in independent reading is fostered by scheduled book exchange through Language Arts classes. All students visit and exchange books every 3 weeks. Book exchange is based on a 5 step process through which students identify their interests, search, and read self selected books. Students can return and

exchange books everyday if they wish. Through repeated Library Media Center use, book talks by Ms Kauder, special displays, and library events, students develop into readers of favorite authors and genre, changing as they mature.
