GBHS Alumni Wall of Honor
The Glen Burnie High School Alumni Wall of Honor recognizes alumni whose achievements shine as examples to the students of Glen Burnie High School. The Inductees will be recognized in a public ceremony before the start of the GBHS Homecoming Game, as well as an unveiling ceremony earlier in the day. The Inductees will be presented with a Commemorative Pin and GBHS Alumni Wall of Honor plaque as well as a place of honor on the Alumni Wall of Honor.

JACK ROETH
Class of 1952
Jack Roeth graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1952. He was very active in high school serving as senior class president, a member of the National Honor Society, and various athletic teams (including being a member of the 1952 G.B.H.S. state champion basketball team).
Upon graduation he was employed by Westinghouse Electric, where he worked for nearly forty (40) years. For a significant part of his career he was a key member of the Airborne Warning and Control System (AWACS) radar which is still in use today.
Even though his days were filled with work and schooling, Jack managed to be active with his daughter in the Janette School of Dance and dance recitals at Severna Park high School. In addition, he coached the Linthicum Ferndale Youth Athletic Association 15 year old baseball team for three years. They had a 33 win 0 loss record during his tenure. |

RODGER WALDMAN
Class of 1961
Rodger Waldman graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1961.
In 1974, he founded the Chesapeake Audubon Society (CAS) and served as president for nearly 15 years. Under Rodger's leadership and inspiration, the chapter grew from a handful of concerned individuals to over 2000 members. He did this on his own time while holding a full-time position with the federal government. In 1977, Rodger led the way in enabling the chapter to purchase its first sanctuary which would eventually grow to include approximately 750 acres; marshes that the Smithsonian Institute determined were a top priority for preservation of the Bay. In 1984, a 400 acre working farm on the Eastern Shore was donated to the CAS. From the start, Rodger envisioned the property, "Pickering Creek," as a place to teach about the unique environment and ecosystems of the Chesapeake Bay. The center provides educational programs to thousands of students and adults annually from eight Maryland counties and the District of Columbia.
Rodger was an indefatigable inspiration to all who knew and worked with him while founding and directing the Chesapeake Audubon Society. He is the recipient of the William Dutcher award in recognition of his significant contributions to the environment. |

JAMES SAXON
Class of 1964
James (Jim) Saxon graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1964. In his three years at Glen Burnie, Jim excelled in sports and school activities.
Wanting to be a teacher, Jim enrolled in Towson State College. He continued his love of sports, playing soccer and lacrosse during his four years at TSC. In his senior year, he received All-American recognition in lacrosse. During his time at Towson, he also served as president of the Kiwanis' Circle K Club, a community and school service organization.
After graduation, Jim married Nancy Walker and attended graduate school at Bucknell University. The US Army had other plans for Jim, and he soon went to Infantry Officer Candidate School, leaving as a second lieutenant. Shortly after, he was sent to Vietnam. In June of 1971, while on patrol with the 101st Airborne Division, Jim lost his life in the Truoi River Valley.

JEFF WARFIELD
Class of 1982
Jeff Warfield graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1982. He graduated “Magna Cum Laude” from the University of Maryland Baltimore County. Upon graduation Jeff served in the US Army Reserves and National Guard for 20 years, earning the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 4. He has deployed twice as a MEDEVAC Black Hawk helicopter pilot, most recently flying 174 MEDEVAC missions in Afghanistan.
Jeff has been awarded the Bronze Star medal as well as three Air medals.

Harry Neisser
Class of 1961
Harry Neisser, a 1961 GBHS graduate, had dedicated his life to the citizens of Anne Arundel County. As a member of the Anne Arundel County Police Department for twenty-six years, he served as a Police Academy Instructor and a Detective assigned to the Police and Community Together (P.A.C.T.) unit. After retiring, he became a part-time Deputy Sheriff for the Anne Arundel County Sheriff's Office and ultimately became a full time Deputy Sheriff in 2001. He currently co-produces and writes scripts for the monthly Anne Arundel Countys Most Wanted cable television program and has been very active in several community outreach activities, including coordinating the Domestic Violence cell Phone Program, children's fingerprinting and special olympic fundraising events. In 2003, Deputy Neisser recieved the Public Safety Officer of the Year award for the American Legion and was nominated for the Criminal Justice community Unsung Hero award in 2006. He has been a far-reaching positive influence on the police cadets he has trained through the years and his community outreach activities has provided an improved quality of life for the citizens of Anne Arundel County. |

John Kasuda
Class of 1983
John Kasuda is a 1983 Graduate of G.B.H.S. He then entered the U.S. Naval Academy and recieved a degree in Ocean Engineering. Following Graduation, he entered the US Marine Corps and attained the distinct honor of becoming a helicopter pilot flying Marine One for President Bill Clinton. He served in Somalia during the conflict of the warlords, carrying personnel and supplies into combat areas. After achieving the rank of Major, he left the Marine Corps to become an Engineering Consultant. During his military career as well as in his current proffesion, he has remained active in athletics. He has organized and coached a variety of youth sports activities at the Academy of the Holy Cross and remains active in the church. John is a devoted father and husband who works endlessly to make a diffrence in the lives of those he touches. From the words of his employers and colleagues, he is a fast learner, "He is a fast learner, gets things finished on time, finished on time, is a team player, makes things happen, has good common sense, is astute and precise, works well under pressure and can handle demanding tasks." |

James "Ed" DeGrange
Class of 1968
James "Ed" DeGrange SR. graduatedrom G.B.H.S. in 1968. upon graduation, he attended Anne Arundel Community College and served in the U.S. Army reserve. His service to,and impact on the community is unparalleled. Professionally he served as the Vice-President for DeGrange Lumber Co, and was President of DeGrange Enterprises in 1994. He was elected to the Anne Arundel County Council and served until 1998. In 1999, he was elected to the Maryland State Senate. He serves on the Board of Directors for Glen Burnie Mutual Savings Bank, has been a member of the Glen Burnie Improvment Association for over 40 years, has served as the President of Take Back Our Streets since 1995, and previously served on the Board of Directors for the Baltimore-Washington Medical Center Foundation and the Advisory Board for the Salvation Army. Senator DeGrange's awards are numerous, including Outstanding Employer Partner from Maryland Chamber Of Commerce (2005), Outstanding Legislator of the Year from Maryland Business for Responsive Goverment (2008, 2009), and Distinguished Legislator Award from Maryland Municipal League (2009). |

Lawrence Rogers
Class of 1967
Lawrence Rogers graduated from G.B.H.S. in 1967. Upon graduation, he enrolled in the Department of the Navy's Cooperation education program and began work at the David Taylor Research Center. At the same time he began his college education at Cleveland State University, graduating in the fall of 1972. Over his 40+ year federal career. Mr. Rogers was a key part of many groundbreaking initiatives involving ships, ship combat systems, and ballistic missile defence systems, including a leadership role in the AEGIS shipbuilding program. Mr. Rogers achieved Senior Executive Service rank in 2003. He has recieved numerous personal awards, including a Navy Civilian Superior Service Medal, the Secretary of Defense Meritorious Civilian Service Medal, and a Department of Defense award for Value Engineering. In addition to exceptional public service, he has also been very active in the community. He has been a leader in his church, responsible for staff perish relations as well as teaching Sunday school. |

Dr. Stacey Robert
Class of 1989
Stacey Robert (Gauthier) graduated from G.B.H.S. in 1989. She recieved her undergraduate degree from Loyola College and went on to the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Dr. Robert is a very well respected family physician who has touched and improved numerous lives. She was selected to the faculty at York Hospital after being Chief Resident from 2001-2002. The Chairman of the Department of Family Medicine said the following about Dr. Robert, " She is a personable, caring, compassionate, positive, and a consummate team player. In my 30 years in academic family medicine, I have never seen a more effective and positive role model for medical students and residents." In addition to her proffesional achievments, she remains dedicated to serving the community. She is the medical director of the Health Connect Van which travels to under serviced areas to evaluate and treat patients who would otherwise recieve care. She also volunteers at local schools and coaches youth soccer and basketball. Dr. Robert has recieved numerous accolades, including the Emergency Leaders in Family Medicine Ne Regional Award (2005), Teacher of the Year for York Hospital Family Medicine Residency (2007), and was nominated for Pennsylvania Family Physician of the year (2010). Dr. Robert tireless compassion, love for community and family, and selfless devotion to those in need are excellent ideals for future graduates to follow. |

Marie Elizabeth Angel Durner
Class of 1933
Marie Angel Durner was a member of the first graduating class to graduate from Glen Burnie High School in 1933 at its current location. She in fact, by accident of alphabet, received the first diploma from the current campus. Marie was a product of a one-room schoolhouse prior to her attendance at GBHS. She has epitomized the meaning of citizenship in Anne Arundel County her entire life. Marie had three different careers - twice self employed and once a public servant. She owned and operated Angel's Store for 22 years, was a local Real Estate Agent/Broker and held the office of Chief Judge and Judge of the Anne Arundel County Orphan's Court from 1984 through 1994. She was the co-founder of the Anne Arundel County Historical Society, Severn Cross Roads Foundation and the Lake Shore Volunteer Fire Company's Ladies Auxiliary and a county Soroptimists Club Chapter. She was involved in the preservation of historic local buildings including the Benson Hammond House and the B&A Short Line Railroad Building in Arnold. A born leader and dedicated mother of five, she was ahead of her time as a role model for modern womanhood. |

Dr. Betty Lou Shubkagel
Class of 1950
Dr. Betty Lou Shubkagel graduated from GBHS in 1950 and went on to earn her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON), a Master's in Medical Surgical Nursing from Emory University and a Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Maryland. She taught at the UMSON in both undergraduate and graduate programs and served as chair of the Medical Surgical Graduate Department for over a decade. Her visionary leadership led to additional Master's specialties in Gerontology and the nationally acclaimed Trauma Critical Care Program. Among her scholarly contributions, she co-authored the text Pharmacology and Therapeutics, a standard in excellence for pharmacology textbooks. She was an active member in numerous nursing organizations. After her retirement in 1985, she was honored by the UMSON with an Outstanding Achievement Award in 1987 and Professor Emeritus status in 2005. |

Dr. Gloria Palumbo Holland
Class of 1962
Dr. Gloria Palumbo Holland graduated from GBHS in 1962 and started her secretarial career at the National Security Agency. Shortly into her NSA career, she became an instructor, and this was the catalyst for furthering her education. As a single parent and while maintaining a full-time career and part-time teaching, she received her Bachelor of Science from Bowie University, a Masters of Arts from the University of Maryland Baltimore County and a Doctor of Education from Nova Southeastern University. She also worked and taught at Anne Arundel Community College and Towson University. She taught graduate-level courses at UMBC and Towson, created outcomes-based curriculum for the Surgeons’ General’s Office, Farleigh Dickinson and Towson universities, Maryland community colleges and NSA. Dr. Holland was awarded the Distinguished Research Award from NSU’s Programs for Higher Education and the Distinguished Performance Award from the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education. She has authored several publications and presented at national and international conferences. Gloria has been a leader in advancing academic excellence through state-of-the-art, effective teaching and learning initiatives for higher education and life-long learning.

Frank E. Homberg, Sr.
Class of 1932
Mr. Homberg, a 1932 graduate, began a life-long career with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department at the Brooklyn Community Volunteer Fire Company, starting as an Engineman and rising to the rank of Assistant Fire Chief. He also served as an Instructor for the Fire Service Extension Section of the University of Maryland, teaching Basic and Advanced Fire Fighting courses in nearly all of the volunteer fire stations within Anne Arundel County. He also mentored many young people in the neighborhood, offering them positions as volunteer fire-fighters. For many years Frank opened his home to Brooklyn Park Elementary School teachers and students to view his annual Christmas Garden. Mr. Homberg passed away in 1971 and the Brooklyn Park Fire Station was later dedicated in his honor.

David Thomas
Class of 1966
Mr. David Thomas graduated from Glen Burnie High School in 1966, joined the United States Marine Corps and served two years in Quantico during the Vietnam War. David then earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Carson-Newman College, followed by his Master’s Degree in Administrative Science from Johns Hopkins University. He then became the youngest Functional Unit Director at Johns Hopkins. He continued his professional life with positions at the University of Vermont, the University of Missouri and went on to become President of the National Academic Practice Assembly (APA). David served as Executive Director at Burns Clinic and then went on to accept the position of CEO at Midwest Physician Group. He currently serves as the CEO at Michigan Heart.

Lt. Col. Paul Joseph Kasuda
Class of 1985
Lt Col Paul Kasuda, a 1985 GBHS graduate, achieved a scholarship to the Valley Forge Military Academy and received an appointment to the United States Air Force Academy where he graduated in 1990. He is currently serving as Chief, Protection and Defense Branch, assigned to the Headquarters Security Forces Center, Lackland Air Force Base, TX. During his military career, he has received numerous awards and decorations including the Meritorious Service Medal, as well as the Southwest Asia Service Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, and the Iraqi Campaign Medal. In addition to his service to our Country, Lt Col Kasuda has earned two masters degrees, maintains an ongoing connection with his church community and supports the families of Airmen deployed around the world. He and his wife Debra currently reside in San Antonio, TX and have three children, Bradley, Sarah, and Grant.

Sulynn Amrhein
Class of 1993
Upon graduating in 1993, Ms. Amrhein went on to graduate from the University of Pennsylvania and The Wharton School of Business. She has held various leadership positions with the Procter & Gamble Company, including an expatriate assignment that required moving to Switzerland and serving as the CIO for the Iams Company for Europe, Middle East, and African regions. In addition to her professional talents, Sulynn helped charter the Baltimore chapter of the Race for the Cure, provided website consulting strategy for the Geneva Women in International Trade (GWIT) organization, and was active in the expatriate community. She has relocated to the Boston area and has joined the Board of Directors for Troubadour.

Scott Jordan
Class of 1996
A true performer, Mr. Jordan has taken his love of entertainment and parlayed it to all aspects of the Performing Arts industry. Since graduating from GBHS in 1996, Scott has appeared in a variety of television shows airing on MTV, NBC and TBS. He has served as a Lead Performer for Disney as well as for Universal Studios. In addition, he has toured the world many times over, headlining and singing in over 27 different countries. To date Scott has also headlined three different shows in Las Vegas, including the world renowned "Legends In Concert" at Harrah's Hotel and Casino. Scott maintains an ongoing connection with Glen Burnie High School, as he provides guest performances and monetary donations to the Choral Arts Program and intends to establish the “Scott Jordan Performing Art Scholarship” for deserving GBHS students. |

Alfred J. Lipin
Class of 1939
Alfred J. Lipin was born in Pasadena, Maryland, on March 16, 1920 and attended Pasadena Elementary School. He enrolled in the University of Baltimore before being drafted into the Army in 1942 and assigned to the 629th Tank Destroyer Battalion. He is a recipient of the Silver Star for valor in recognition for his actions in helping to stop a German advance in Belgium. After the war, Lipin joined his father in the hardware business and then entered politics. He was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates (serving from 1966 to 1970) and then the Maryland Senate (serving from 1970 until retirement in 1977). Senator Lipin believes that his most significant contribution was the “Glen Burnie Renewal Project” which included the first allocation of money for a district court building in Glen Burnie. This building became the George Taylor District Court Building. |

Alvin W. Lenz
Class of 1946
Chief Lenz was a pioneering and key figure in the history of the Anne Arundel County Fire Service. A lifelong resident of Pasadena, he began his fire service career first at the Lake Shore, then the Riviera Beach Volunteer Fire Companies. He then went on to career service in the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, while at the same time, continuing his service as a volunteer at the Riviera Beach station. Chief Lenz passed away in 2000 but his tradition of service to the citizens of Anne Arundel County has been continued by his son, his sons-in-laws, and grandchildren. |

Arlene Page
Class of 1955
Arlene Page (Cogswell) attended AACC, Salisbury University, National Cryptologic School and Army Corp of Engineers. Arlene’s proudest achievement was her National Security Agency service at the American Embassy in London, England for three years. Arlene has been extremely active with Habitat for Humanity serving as the Building Coordinator for five years, the Executive Director for four years, and receiving the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2001. Arlene Page serves on the Board of Directors for the Shore Housing Resource Board, is a member of the Ocean Pines Women’s Democratic Club, and is President of the Bishopville-St. Martin’s Neck Community Association. Arlene narrowly lost her campaign for the Democratic Candidate for Worcester County Commissioner in District 6. Arlene also taught adult education for eight years for Anne Arundel County Public Schools.

John A. Schillinger, Ph.D.
Class of 1956
Dr. John Schillinger “retired” from the presidency of Asgrow Seed Co. in 1999 to form Schillinger Seed, Inc. After 32 years in soybean research, John took on the new challenge of breeding Food Grade soybeans designed for the soyfoods market. And John has an eye for proven winners—3127, for example, named “Product of the Decade” in 1992 by US AgriMarketing, is just one variety that John developed. John also founded Heartland Fields, LLC, a predominately farmer-owned soyfoods company in 2000. Managing Heartland Fields has provided John good insight into the specific requirements for soy products for the food industry. John holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degree from the University of Maryland. He also holds a PhD in Plant Genetics from Michigan State University |

Russell C. Coile
Class of 1961
Russell C. Coile served as the senior strategist for Health Strategies & Solutions, Inc., a health care management consulting firm in Philadelphia, Pa. He was a nationally recognized health care management consultant, author, and lecturer. In 2002 he was named as one of the top 100 health leaders in the nation by Modern Healthcare magazine. He was a prolific author, writing 11 books and hundreds of articles, including FutureScan, an award-winning report on industry trends sponsored by the American Hospital Association and the American College of Healthcare Executives. For 15 years, Coile published his own monthly newsletter, Russ Coile's Health Trends. He was the past president of the Society for Healthcare Strategy and Market Development and received the society's award for professional excellence in 2003. He also served on the boards of the Center for Health Design and the Public Health Institute, and served on the editorial advisory boards for several publications. Russell Coile died in 2003 from complications of brain cancer at the age of 60. |

Barbara Moeller
Class of 1961
Over the last 30 years, Ms. Moeller has dedicated herself to the community of Glen Burnie through her tireless volunteer efforts. Ms. Moeller started with the Glen Burnie Improvement Association in 1987 and served as Chairman of The Big Glen Burnie Carnival in 1990, 1991, 1992, and 1999 to present. Barbara has also been President of Glen Burnie Recreation Association for over 30 years and has volunteered with the Multiple Sclerosis Bowling League.

Paul L. Higgins Jr.
Class of 1978
Paul Higgins is a husband of 23 years and father of three Glen Burnie High School daughters. Paul has served as an officer for Freetown PTA, as a Coach and Softball Commissioner for Haurundale Youth Sports League, and as a Youth Programs Director for the Knights of Columbus. Paul also chaired the Marley Middle School Replacement Committee and has been extremely involved with the GBHS Band Boosters. Paul has consistently supported the Glen Burnie Improvement Association Carnival as a chairman and stand worker and has served as an officer for the Woodholme Circle Community Association. Paul has been recognized for his contributions to the community by Senators, County Executives, and the Director of National Security Agency with the Distinguished Community Service Award.

Lori Ann Slezak, M.D.
Class of 1987
After graduating from Glen Burnie High School, Lori went on to Towson University where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Biology in 1991. Lori pursued medical school at the University of Maryland and then entered a seven year surgical residency at Yale University. Lori has been part of a two year research grant, authored many publications, and presented her work at national surgical meetings. Lori has received additional training at the Mayo Clinic in the field of Colon and Rectal Surgery and currently serves her patients at St. Joseph Hospital in Tampa, Florida. |
