PTSO 2008-09 Board MembersPresident – Stacey GardnerVice President – Wayne NewtonTreasurer – Karen WhiteSecretary – Kathy LearPTSO News……The PTSO (Parent – Teacher – Student – Organization) of Glen Burnie High School is dedicated to fostering communication and involvement between parents, school staff, students, and the community. We hope to sponsor several events each year that provide parent education and promote staff appreciation. Last year, we raised funds to buy a new Gopher Mascot Uniform. You may have seen him at last year’s Teacher’s Appreciation Lunch, or at this year’s Back to School Night. He plans to attend the Glen Burnie Improvement Association’s Centennial Race on October 12th, and will be readily available for more school and community functions, promoting Gopher Pride. This year, we have set a new goal to aid in the communication between all parent, teacher, and student organizations. We will be inviting the different organizations to be on each month’s PTSO meeting agenda. We will also have a PTSO representative in attendance at other organizations’ meetings. Invited to be on our agenda in October is the Athletic Boosters, in November, the Band Boosters, and the SGA is invited to be on the agenda in December. We hope that this effort will help our organizations work together to best serve the entire student body. Fundraisers...The PTSO has a few great items for purchase that help promote Gopher Pride, as well. Stadium Blankets, Sports’ Towels, Gopher Paw Magnets and Window Clings are available for purchase. Simply download this form, print out the form and return it to school with your check. New Items: PTSO has added red hoodies and jackets to our Gopher Gear selections. These new items have a different order form. Your purchase will help fund yearly events like “Just Desserts” and “Teacher Appreciation Week” for the teaching staff as thank you treats from the whole student body. The drinks you enjoyed at the Back to School Night were also provided by PTSO as well be drinks and treats for our Parent / Principal Forums. Parent / Principal Forum...These are great opportunities for parents to ask questions of our school administration. Each forum has a theme such as last year’s “College and Career Pathways.” A topic is discussed and parents are welcome to bring any questions or concerns. Please check back for dates, times and subjects of future events. Meetings...We encourage your involvement and participation in all of our activities, and welcome your attendance at any PTSO meeting. We meet at 7:00 p.m., the second Monday of each month, in the Administration Building Conference Room. Park on the Kuethe Road parking lot, and enter through the rear doors near the Auditorium.
