January 15th 2009 - Evening of Dance

The Glen Burnie High School Dance Program was established by Ms. Dianne Rosso 37 years ago and it is one of the largest dance programs in a public high school state-wide taught during the school day for credit.

All students who take dance classes appear in two dance shows held in the winter and spring.

The GBHS Dance Company has been selected each year to perform state-wide in the Maryland High School Dance Showcase. They also perform for the Anne Arundel County Dance Festival, at area schools, malls, and for community organizations.

Students who take dance classes during the school day have the opportunity each semester to travel to New York City to see the show at Radio City Music Hall or Broadway musicals, and take dance classes at Broadway Dance Center and tour the city with their family and friends.

Some of the students from Ms. Rosso's Dance Program have gone on to become high school dance teachers. Others have performed in college dance companies, professional companies, for Disney, in Las Vegas, are working on Broadway, performing with the Radio City Music Hall "Rockettes," and have opened dance studios of their own. Ms. Stacey Wirth was a Dance Company member and one of Ms. Rosso's students.

Each student who takes dance receives credit, plus: develops strength, flexibility, rhythm, timing, coordination, footwork, speed, poise, and self-confidence, to name a few.
