Computer Science Teams Excels at UMD and AACC CompetitionsSaturday, March 28, two representatives from the Computer Science team travelled to University of Maryland for their annual High School Programming Contest. Jimmy W. and Cory M. competed against nationally ranked schools such as: Thomas Jefferson, Walt Whitman and Holy Ghost Prep; and IB and Magnet schools like Annapolis High and Montgomery Blair. Jimmy and Cory completed 3 of the extremely challenging 8 problems and finished 13th out of 45 schools. Glen Burnie beat out Broadneck and Arundel, taking second place for the county. Friday, April 3, a different Computer Science team consisting of Ryan H., Jasmine M., Cory M., and Phillip T., ranked 2nd in a county-wide competition at AACC. The team correctly found solutions to 4 of the 6 problems in the team round in less than an hour. Problems ranged from determining if a number was abundant, deficient, or perfect (a property determined by the sum of its proper divisors) to verifying a solution to a Sudoku problem using the Java programming language. In addition, Cory M. took third place in the individual round. |
