ATTENTION STUDENTS: Are you, or someone you know, in a rock band? If so,
sign up for the Glen Burnie High School Battle of the Bands. This event will
take place in the GBHS auditorium on Friday, February 29th, at 7 PM. For more
information see Mr. McMahan in the Band Room for registration information and
group requirements. If you are not in a rock band please purchase tickets for
Battle of the Bands for $5 now or $7 at the door. Everyone, come out and
support the Music Department for the 2008 Glen Burnie High School Battle of the
Bands.
ATTENTION ALL GOPHERS! This is a call to action! Join the fight against cancer
by supporting Daffodil Days. You can give the gift of hope by making a donation
in any amount or purchasing daffodils for as little as $10 for a bunch. The
program runs until February 20th. See Mrs. Smothers in the main office to give
the gift of hope.
A.A. COUNTY CAREER EXPO 2008 will be held March 15th, 10 AM to 2 PM at the
Doubletree Hotel in Annapolis. The Expo is a 1-day opportunity for local
businesses and government to spotlight selected careers to middle and high
school students. This is an opportunity for you to talk directly with
prospective business and government employers to learn about career
opportunities right here is Anne Arundel County.
THERE WILL BE AN HONOR ROLL ASSEMBLY tomorrow, Wednesday, during 2nd period.
You will receive your Honor Roll certificate or blue pass in Student Seminar
tomorrow morning. This is your pass to the assembly. Students are to report
to their 2nd period class. You will be called over the PA when it is time to
come to the auditorium. Thank you for your cooperation.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT TO ALL DANCE COMPANY CLASS MEMBERS: Tomorrow you will be
dancing in the Honor Roll Assembly, period 2. Report, in costume, to the
auditorium during TAP tomorrow to run both dances performed at the County Dance
Festival ? Nate?s and Allison?s dances! Please report!
STUDENTS: If you receive a Federal Survey in Student Seminar today it must be
returned to Mrs. Smothers no later than Friday, February 22nd.
TWILIGHT SCHOOL begins today at 2:05. If you are registered for English 9,
English 12, Algebra I, and Geometry report to the cafeteria at 2:05 sharp.
Late registration for Twilight will take place Tuesday thru Friday THIS WEEK
ONLY in the English office after school. You must bring a parent and a check
or money order for $80 per class.
ATTENTION A.P. STUDENTS: Now is the time to register for A.P. tests. There is
an $84 charge per test. Please register in Guidance.
ATTENTION SENIORS: Please fill out your FAFSA form this week. See your
Guidance Counselor if you need help.
THE PANHELLENIC CLUB OF ANNAPOLIS is offering merit scholarships to high school
senior girls in Anne Arundel County. Scholarships are valued at $750. Female
applicants must demonstrate good character, leadership, and at least a GPA of
2.5. Deadline is February 22nd. Applications are in Guidance.
DANCE: This announcement goes out to all GBHS students who want to dace in the
May ?Evening of Dance?. Dance Company will practice on Tuesdays,
Wednesdays ? begin a new dance, and Thursdays are the High School Musical
dance and new dancers are welcome! All meeting times are 2 PM in room B-200.
All students are reminded to sign up for dance classes this week for next year.

Athletics:
Spring Sports Sign Up
ATTENTION ALL SPRING SPORTS CANDIDATES: Spring Sports registration for boys?
and girls? lacrosse, tennis, cheerleading, track & field, softball, and
baseball will be held from 9 AM thru 12 noon this Saturday, February 23rd, in
the main gym. All Spring Sports candidates should be prepared to submit their
parent permission forms, character code of conduct, and physicals at this time.
ATTENTION ALL BASEBALL CANDIDATES: The final pre-season baseball team meeting
will take place on Wednesday, February 20th, at 2:10 PM in room B-102 (Mr.
Wagner?s classroom). This meeting will identify specific needs for the start
of the try-out process, including try-out dates and times.
ATTENTION ALL CANDIDATES INTERESTED IN PARTICIPATING IN A SPRING CHEERLEADING
PROGRAM: There will be an information meeting held on Saturday, February 23rd,
at 10 AM during the spring sports registration. The coaching staff will be
introduced at this time.
Spring Sports registration will be held on Saturday, February 23rd from
9am-12noon in the main gym.
Student/Athletes should submit completed physical, parent permission and
character code of conduct forms at this time.
Student/Athletes who have tried out or played a Fall or Winter sport, and have
their physical on file do not have to submit a new physical. However, ALL
candidates for Spring Sports must submit new parent permission and character
code of conduct forms at this time.
Spring sports Parent Orientation will be held on Tuesday, March 18th @ 6pm in
the cafeteria.

Art
The Art Department is hosting its annual Cream of the Crop Art show in the main
lobby during the month of February. Please, come and see all of our
outstanding student work from first semester! For those ninth graders enrolled
in an art class this semester, please remember to send a $5.00 art supplement
for Foundations of Art and the Level I studio classes. Your child will have a
letter from their teacher to show you. Checks can be made to GBHS.
We hope to meet parents on Feb 13 for AP night so we can tell you all about our
AP Art History and AP Studio programs. If your child is an Art lover, this is
a great opportunity to see what GBHS Art Department can do for your child!
English
Glen Burnie High School's English Department is running a new elective spring
semester: Literary Magazine! This course invites students to design, edit,
publish, print, and sell the school's magazine, which showcases the best
student writing and artwork of the year. Students who are interested in
creative writing, art, graphic design, and/or publishing should join this
course. All students, grades 9 - 12, may take this course to earn an elective
credit. See Mrs. Carter or your guidance counselor to find out more
information or to join the course
