Welcome to the 2008-2009 school year at Folger McKinsey Elementary School!  It is difficult to believe that the summer vacation is over, but we are back in full swing and ready for an exciting year.  We hope that everyone had a relaxing summer and are looking forward with enthusiasm to the new school year.

The teachers and staff have been working hard to provide your child with a school environment that is safe, organized and inviting.  Ms. Patsy and our custodial staff put in many hours and a lot of elbow grease to ensure that our building is sparkling.  Our secretaries worked hard to order materials, organize and finalize last year’s documents, register new students, and process new textbooks and resources.

We welcome six new members on the faculty this year.  Our new and fifth kindergarten teacher is Mrs. Lindy Stansbury.  Our part-time Talent Development teacher is Mrs. Susan Grieve, our part-time art teacher is Ms. Beth Doolittle, and Ms. Karen Bowman joins us as our part-time Technology Support Technician.   Mrs. Louise Mathis is our new Special Education teacher and Mr. Gregory Metzler joins us this year as our Strings teacher.  In addition, Ms. Jessica Smith is now Mrs. Jessica Quigley.

Please mark your calendar for our Meet and Greet on Thursday, August 28 from 3:45 to 4:30.  This will be an opportunity for parents to meet their child’s teacher and perhaps a few classmates for this year.  Ice cream will be sold along with bottled water.  Also, our Back to School Night will be held on Tuesday, September 9 at 7:00.  You will be able to visit your child’s classroom and find out about the daily schedule, curriculum, homework policies, field trips and much more.

Regular school-home communication will continue throughout the year in the form of monthly school newsletters, specific grade level updates, as well as PTO news and events.  In our effort to stay “Green”, beginning in October, we will no longer be publishing the newsletter in a paper format.  It can be accessed on our website.

Once again, we look forward to having your child in school.  We ask for your continued support and encouragement as we strive to create a rich and rigorous learning environment for all children.  The staff and I look forward to working together to help each child have a successful school year.
