The Crofton Middle School PTO is in existence to lend support to student and teachers through sponsoring and funding of programs designed to supplement core school programs and by enriching the educational experience of the student. Meetings are generally held the third Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM in the Media Center. All PTO Members are invited to attend.

PTO Committee Descriptions

Can-Do Committee Chair: Lisa Eliot

The Can-Do program is a student incentive program that encourages academic achievement and personal responsibility. (See CMS school Website for Can-Do recipient requirements) Each deserving student receives a photo I.D. with local merchant award offers listed on the back of the card. The Can-Do committee prints and distributes the cards on a quarterly basis at a Can-Do award assembly.

Cultural Arts Committee Chair: Gail Burcky

The Cultural Arts committee oversees the Summer Reading Program and other enrichment programs (i.e. playwrights after school program, writing competition.) and all the publicity as appropriate for the chosen programs. The committee works with the school faculty to choose programs that enrich the curriculum and participates in the annual showcase for school enrichment.

 
Destination Imagination Committee Chair: Debbie Lynch
Destination ImagiNation® is one of the world's largest creativity and problem solving programs for youth. The program helps kids build important lifelong skills such as teamwork and divergent thinking. The committee comprises of team coaches and the coordinator.

Fundraising Committee Chair: Leigh Klaus

The Fundraising committee is responsible for the coordination of all moneymaking programs including the Fall Gift Wrap/Novelty Catalog sales as well as the grocery/store loyalty programs.

 
Hospitality Committee Chair: Lisa Eliot

The Hospitality committee provides refreshments for School events (i.e. Principal’s Honor Roll Breakfast) as well as appreciation gifts to our fabulous staff and volunteers. Past programs included monthly teacher treats, staff breakfast at the beginning of the year and staff lunch at the end of the year. Volunteers help shop, bake goodies, deliver items to school and/or serve as “hostess” of a hospitality event.

 

Landscape Committee Chair: Stacey Fahey, Leigh Klaus 

The Landscaping committee coordinates the enhancement of the CMS grounds, improving the school’s overall aesthetic appearance. AACPS mows the grass and delivers mulch… Volunteers help plant and maintain gardens.

 

Membership Committee Chair: Michael Malone

The Membership committee coordinates the PTO membership drive including the collection of PTO dues, compiling a PTO database, maintaining the membership roster and forwarding volunteer names to appropriate committee chairs.

 

Musical Committee Chair: Sue Hait

The Musical committee coordinates parent producers, Directors from Talent Machine and a cast of over 100 students by producing a top-notch musical for six performances in March/April. Volunteers learn set design & construction, lighting, costume procurement, concessions and more!

 

Newsletter Committee Chair: CHAIR NEEDED

The Newsletter committee compiles PTO news to be included in the school’s monthly newsletter. It also maintains a community bulletin board at the Giant grocery store. 
 
Science and Technology Committee Chair: Open
The Science and Technology committee coordinates the CMS homework assignment Website and supports the school science fair and acts as liaison for school science and technology enrichment programs.
