Jazz Band Fridays 7 - 8 Am (Begins Mid October)
The Band/Orchestra of Crofton Middle School are a direct extension of the classroom learning. Students are placed in the band/orchestra that best meets their needs. The band/orchestra performs at least 4 times a year. The Stage Band will perform jazz, rock and Latin style pieces of music with saxophones, trombones, trumpets, piano, bass, and drum set. This group will perform at the Winter and Spring Concerts with the other bands and will perform on our Spring trip.

Students will work in teams (up to 7) with a parent(s) volunteer and coaches to prepare for DI competitions involving creativity and problem solving.
The SGA gives the individual students a voice in school decision-making. Students oversee school dances and other activities throughout the school year.

Chess Club

Chess Club is open to all students in grades 6-8. Students can learn how to play or improve their skills by playing in tournaments with other students at CMS. Meetings are held on Thursdays from 3-4 PM in the Media Center from October to April. Students can also attend chess tournaments outside of school including the Maryland Scholastic Tournament in March. Contact Mrs. Christofel at jchristofel@aacps.org for more information.
Spelling/Reading

Students will meet approximately once a month. Spelling will concentrate on prepareation for our school wide spelling bee in January with the winner going on to the regional Scripps Howard Spelling Bee. Students who love to read will love meeting to discuss their favorites and also read new great books. Look for a schedule of meting and information posted outside room 104.
Dance Company (7th & 8th grade)

Get some exercise and burn off energy while joining your friends and teachers jogging around the perimeter of the building. If you need to prepare for sports, this is an excellent way to get ready. The goal of the club is to have runners participate in the Trek4Tech in the Spring of 2012. Signed permission slips are required-please obtain from Mrs. Rogers in Room 314 or in the main office.
History Club
