A message from our principal, Ms. Donna O'Shea

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the privilege of serving your child as school principal. The Crofton Elementary School Community is to be commended for your support and dedication to the educational process of all children.  It is a privilege to work with our dedicated faculty and staff to ensure a safe and nurturing school environment where students learn and mature through an academically rigorous core curriculum. Crofton Elementary School has continued to create a school culture of high standards with individualized support for our students. As a staff we are dedicated to providing a quality education for each child in the best possible learning environment.

We have high expectations for our students.  With high expectations comes high achievement and success.  Our school is committed to student success through the regular curriculum which includes research-based reading and mathematics programs. We offer a Talent Development program for students who preassess and need more enrichment activities and additional intervention programs for our students who may be struggling. In addition to traditional subjects, Crofton has an intentional focus on character education, which has enabled us to be a “Maryland School of Character”, one of only four in the state. We are extremely proud of the long tradition of academic excellence at our school.

The success of this school is attributed to the team work of the staff, students, and parents. We put children first when making educational decisions. Our students are motivated, cooperative, well-behaved and pleasant. Staff members constantly seek new innovative ways to make our school an exciting learning experience. Our parents are actively involved in our school and in the education of their children. We strive to make Crofton a friendly, caring, supportive school where children feel challenged, safe, and cared for by both the school staff and the community. We maintain high expectations for all students with special emphasis on academics and student responsibility.

Our active PTA members support our goals and projects, volunteer countless hours on special projects and help us provide a nurturing school environment for our students. We reap the benefits of the active involvement and support of our school community and attendance at school events.  This strong support is an important factor in the success of the school. As always, parent and community involvement plays an important and valuable role at Crofton Elementary. Our teachers and staff appreciate an extra hand and our students always benefit from the experience and expertise volunteers bring to our school.

I am happy to be the principal of a school whose faculty and staff are dedicated to helping students be successful through exciting and challenging learning opportunities.

Wonderful students, committed and talented staff and strong parent and community support all work together to make every day full of joyful teaching and learning at Crofton Elementary School.

Donna O’Shea,

Principal

Vision Statement

Working in a partnership with the school community, the Crofton Elementary Scholar will experience rigorous academic challenges that promote lifelong, active learning and a strong moral character in order to excel in the twenty-first century.

Philosophy

We believe that each child who attends Crofton Elementary is endowed with certain abilities, talents, and academic strengths.  We also feel, however, that each and every child is different.  They come to us with unique personalities and social characteristics.  Our responsibility is to build on these strengths and differences.  We believe that we have an obligation to help nurture, strengthen, and develop each child's potential.  We do not take this responsibility lightly.  We hope to serve the "total" needs of our children.  We feel we can do this best when the school provides a climate that promotes academic success for all children.  We believe we can make a difference in the life of your child.
