As the proud Principal of CMES, let me welcome you to the 2011-12 school year! Having just been appointed this position a few days before school is back in session, I have been taking a crash course in the ways of the Mustangs. I have heard nothing but praise about the community, staff, parents and students. We are lucky to have such support from so many different stakeholders.
Once again, CMES topped county schools on the Maryland State Assessment that was administered in the spring. 100% of the students were proficient or advanced in four out of the six categories. It is a clear indication that all of our students are learning at high levels. Do not think for a second that we are slowing down! Our teachers are constantly looking for ways to improve instruction and increase student learning.
One of the big changes to help align our curriculum with the nation-wide Common Core Standards and further meet the needs of our students is the implementation of a new reading program, Treasures. Teachers spent many summer hours, attending trainings and familiarizing themselves with the new materials. The new program promises to bring even more rigor and relevance to the classrooms.
