SkillsUSA State Championships

The 2005 Maryland championships involved students in 60 different trade, technical, health - occupations, and leadership areas competed. competitions. The SkillsUSA Championships showcase the best career and technical students in the nation. Contests begin locally and continue through the state and national levels. The goals of the championships are to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly evaluating student performance, and to keep training relevant to employer's needs.

Centers of Applied Technology Dominate Region III SkillsUSA Competitions

Students from the Centers of Applied Technology won a total of 53 medals out of a possible 60 in the SkillsUSA regional competitions held this past Saturday. These students will compete in the SkillsUSA state competitions next month.

Students at CAT-North won a total of 30 medals, including 10 gold, 10 silver, and 10 bronze; students at CAT-South earned a total of 23 medals including 8 gold,
9 silver, and 6 bronze.

Medals were won in Architectural Drafting, Automotive Service Technology, Basic Health Care, Cake Decorating, Carpentry, Collision Repair Technology, Commercial Baking, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Food & Beverage Service, HVAC, Industrial Motor Control, Internetworking, Masonry, Nail Care Technology, Nursing Assisting, Residential Wiring, Technical Drafting and Welding.

First place winners in the state competition will qualify to participate in the National SkillsUSA Competition held in Kansas City during the summer.
