Medical Assistant
The Medical Assistant learns medical
terminology, medical law and ethics. Current trends in Medical Office
Management are explored through the use of Medisoft for Computerized
Medical Office Skills. The skills needed to run a doctor's business
office, scheduling appointments, maintaining files, creating and
handling correspondence, billing, banking, collections, handing
insurance claims and maintaining inventory of equipment and supplies.
The clinical skills needed in a doctor's office for providing quality
patient care through education and assisting with examinations and
testing are examined. Specialty skills used in the ancillary areas of a
medical setting, such as specimen collection and laboratory testing, are
studied and hands-on activities are provided. Students work with the
professional in a variety of areas at the Anne Arundel Medical Center,
as well as having hands-on practice in the classroom shop area. A senior
year Cooperative Work Experience
Program is available.
