Total of 7 credits |
Level 1 will provide the student
with an introduction to the basic skills, practices and theories of
electricity and its application to devices, circuits and materials. The
emphasis will be on safe handling of hand and power tools. Topics will
include, the National Electrical Code book, electron theory which
includes atoms and materials, circuit theory, direct current ( D. C. ).
fundamentals, series-parallel circuits, power, and alternating current (
A.C.) fundamentals, calculations for power, voltage, current and
resistance. The student will participate in classroom sessions of
problem solutions for simple circuits and hands-on activities in wiring,
electrical circuits and equipment.
Level 2 will provide the student
with advanced training in those techniques, processes and theories
introduced in Level 1. The course will cover electrical controls,
blueprint reading, estimating, voltage drop, meter reading, advance
wiring projects and special circuits. The student will interpret
and apply the National Electrical Code for problem solutions for load
calculation and branch circuit requirements for residential dwellings.
Emphasis will be placed on those skills and attitudes necessary to gain
employment and/or to pursue higher education.
Level 3
Upon completion of Electricity II, the student will either enter the
work experience program or will require individualized training in
the Electricity III Class.
